Cooking from the Heart for the Heart

Cooking for a healthy heart is a passion of mine. Both my grandmother and cousin died young from heart disease, which is the number one killer in the United States. The exciting thing is that it's preventable with diet and exercise. Limiting sodium and eating good fats are a great place to start. Eating pork products, which are loaded with artery-clogging cholesterol and saturated fat, is a good way to increase your waistline and increase your chances of developing deadly diseases such as heart disease. So why is SP including them on an article about heart health? Report
I love fish but I just can't get over putting it in stews or on tacos. Report
Many of the recipes look good. I wish I could make myself eat more fish. I can seem on.y to tolerate the extremely mild fish which you have not the fish taste. Would it be possible to make some of the recipes with a cod or perhaps some other mild, relatively "safe" fish? Report
I cut back on sodium by switching to potassium chloride and using less overall. I'm eating less red meat and more produce with more raw greens, fruits & veggies in my salads. I've even learned to tolerate spinach which for me is a big change. Also added Vitamin E at night along with aspirin to my routine. Report
I hate to cook, so I try to eat as much raw fruits and veggies as I can and grill on my George Foreman. Report
Saying that something is preventable is not the same as saying lifestyle is a cure-all. You can get lung cancer without smoking, that doesn't mean lung cancer isn't preventable. Report

That's really misleading. You can't change risk factors such as age, gender, or family history with simple diet and exercise. Additionally, people may need medications to help control high blood pressure and high cholesterol, which are other risk factors.

I'll all about promoting an active lifestyle and healthy eating habits, but to expect they are a cure all is irresponsible. Report
