You Asked: How Do I Pick the Right Size Stability Ball?

By , SparkPeople Blogger
Stability balls, which are also called fit balls, Swiss balls, physio balls or exercise balls, are a versatile and affordable exercise tool that will help you develop your core (abs, lower back, oblique) muscles. The balls come in different sizes, typically between 55-75 centimeters when inflated. The size you should choose depends on your height.

Height Diameter when inflated
5'7" or shorter 55 cm
5’7" - 6’2" 65 cm
Taller than 6’2" 75 cm

You should be able to sit on the ball with your knees at a right angle and thighs parallel to the floor while your feet are flat on the floor.

I don't think they will pop or explode like a balloon! I have one for my horse, but his popped it because he bit into it...it didn't burst and he even laid on it prior to biting it! Hope this helps! As long as he doesn't jump on it, It should be fine! Just my opinion, however. :) Report
I know you buy by height, but, doesn't or shouldn't weight be in the equation, too? I have a fear about it bursting if someone much heavier than I uses my ball! I hope some knowledgeable person can dispel my fears regarding this as my DS wants to use my ball. He is only an inch or two taller than I, but a good 60 - 70 pounds heavier! Help! Report
