Here's an "aha" moment for me. Last night I knew that it would be close to 8:00 when we'd be getting home and was telling myself before I left the house that I should have a "little snack" now since I wont' later. I had just finished eating dinner...I wasn't hungry and didn't need a snack, but felt that I should get it in because i was "entitled to it". I opted to stuff my face (such a mature decision!)!!

When we got home, it was afte 8:00, but I didn't heat!!! Believe it or not, i did not waste away in my sleep, nor was I energy deprived and unable to get out of bed this morning to do my walk. I really don't need to have a snack!!!

This challenge truly has been a huge step forward for me! I hope it's doing some great things for you all too! Welcome new friends! Keep going "old" friends too!!!

This challenge has really helped me. I love to eat at night. It's when I'm under the most stress and carbs seem to relieve the "negativity" within me.

But I am learning to replace the emotional eating with exercise. I feel much better after a quick 10 minute stretch than a PBJ sandwitch ever made me feel.

I think that this will be a good challenge for me,it'll be hard though because my husband usually doesn't get home till around 8 and I usually like to eat with him but I guess that is going to have to come to an end.I was done eating at 7:30 this evening so this will be day one for me....I will have to force myself not to munch on anything after the baby goes to sleep.
Good luck to everyone else!

Hello!

My daughter's soccer game ran over and we just got home...no snack for me tonight! I'll tough it out. I came downstairs to the computer while my kids are enjoying their snack. (If you can't stand the heat...get out of the kitchen...fast!)

Let's do it ladies!!!!

I finished up dinner and a small snack right before 8pm, and then I went and worked out. I've heard that working out after your last meal of the night is better for you, so I've been trying to keep with that lately. Then I brushed my teeth, so I wouldn't be tempted to snack while I watched TV with my boyfriend!

WINDSURFMOM, I know exactly how that mindless snacking goes. We keep a basket of grapes on the kitchen table, and I always find myself grabbing one whenever I pass through the kitchen (which is fairly often, since my bedroom is on one side and the bathroom/tradmill/front door etc. is on the other!

And JCONN, don't beat yourself up too much, we all have our off-times. Think of the little triumphs - you ate *fat-free* pudding, healthy wheat thins, and made sure you hit your calorie range instead of staying under. Cutting out the extra snacks will come with focus and willpower, but you have to remember what to be proud of yourself for now. Good luck breaking your plateau, I'm sure you'll hit it soon!

well i didnt eat dinner until 745pm, and then i wasnt even in my calorie range, so i ate some reduced fat wheat thins. which put me a little high in my range. then for some reason i went back for fat free choc pudding, and went over my calories.
what happened to me, i used to be so much better at this. no wonder i am in a bit of a plateau.

though i ate almost a whole package of cookies during the middle of the day, i did not eat after 7:15 last night! I have held this goal for five days now! to everyone else who is starting the challenge... eat your dinner, if it is early and you know that you may get hungry before bedtime, make sure and have a snack, even if you are not quite hungry yet, before 8pm so you will not be tempted and so that food does not control your mind the rest of the night. i know that when food becomes the main focus of mythoughts then i am more likely to just go on a binge when i finally do indulge. this has helped me the last few days, granted it has only been 5 days, but a big accomplishment for me just the same!

During the week is easy for me to not eat after 8pm. My evenings are too jam packed with activities. I never thought of myself as a bored eater but I think I may be leaning that way.

If you are having trouble staying out of the cupboard get busy. Go for a walk, clean something, just stay busy!

Well done to everyone who met the challenge last night.

Be thankful for the "Aha" moment and that it was cherries and not chocolate chip cookies! I was watching tv and thinking about what I wanted for a snack, and then realized that it was past snack time. I left the couch and went to bed...no snack for me!

I'm thankful for this challenge and for all of you!!!

Mindless eating! I intentionally just made a cup of tea so that I wouldn't eat after 8:00pm. Then while talking to my husband, I just started mindlessly eating some cherries that I had left on the table. Granted that they are good and healthy, but wow, what an ah-ha moment....I wasn't even paying attention. Well, start again tomorrow. emoticon

Sheila I am exhausted after reading all of the exercise that you did! Did you ever sleep?

It's almost 9:00...no snacking for me tonight. I am anxious to see the scale start to move...maybe tomorrow will be my day!

Good night all! Make good choices tonight for a great morning tomorrow! (That sounded pretty good...maybe we could get shirts printed up?!)

Now it's time for me to go to bed!!!!!

Yay LITTLEDEBI and SWEETORANGE!

I just had a big DOH! moment. I had the kids by myself tonight and I got them fed, took the baby up to bed and put my son in the shower, got the baby settled, came down and got my son out of the shower, dried, dressed, read books, brushed teeth, into bed, then came and made myself supper and ate it and I just looked up and it is past 8:30! Arrrgh!

Oh well, at least I checked my nutrition tracker to see how many grams of protein and carbs and calories and picked out dinner based on my needs.

So, starting all over again tomorrow!

Hope everybody else remembered to eat dinner before 8:00!

Best,
Sheila

Hi Sue,

I have been using SP on and off for a couple of years. It works when I am consistent with it!

All of my extra weight came while I was pregnant. This time was not as bad as last time but before being pregnant I was in amazingly fabulous shape, but I did not know how to do several hours of exercise every day after having kids, and I have struggled with an all or nothing mind set. So instead of doing what I could, I would do nothing and just figure that as a mom I had to be fat. I love being a mom, so I was willing to make that trade, but thank God I finally realized I don't have to!

Since I don't have the time to exercise as much as I used to, which was 90 min of walking daily, 60 min of weight lifting daily, alternating which parts of my body I worked on, plus 60 minutes of step aerobics every other day, I have to pay very close attention to the food I eat.

I have made peace with the fact that I won't have visible back muscles again, at least until the kids are grown, but I'm not going to give up the chance to be as fit and healthy as I can be to really enjoy my growing family.

Best,
Sheila

I have (after many years) trained myself not to eat after eight so I guess I am a little late for this challenge but congrat to those who are trying and wining this battle. (It probably helps that I go to bed shortly after 8 anyway lol)

Way to go Joanne! I was watching the "Food Network Star" and started salivating way too much, so I came down to the computer to avoid being within refrigerator range! I'm off to bed so I don't fall to temptation...so far so good!

emoticon I am so in! I have been doing very well in the not eating after 8, but I had a bbq Friday evening and another supper to go to saturday, but other than that I have been one month without eating after 8, it seems to be easier now. Good thing I have this site to come to when I am bored in the evening, as it helps so much.
Lucky for me, we have a rule in the house no food when on the computer, it was something we started when the kids were small and just stuck with it!
Now this will be day one again.

Good Job Sheila!!

I was just telling my neighbor this morning during our walk that it would cost a small fortune for us to go to the movies. The ticket prices alone scare me away! We've been taking advantage of the Regal Cinemas free family movies on Tues and Wed am during the summer. They're all second run movies, but it's cheap entertainment. It's at 10:00 a.m. so I've told my kids that we don't need the theater snacks. $5.50 for a small popcorn?! I must be getting old!

Go Sue! It looks like it is just the two of us making it through the weekend, unless there is somebody I'm not seeing. (If so I apologize.)

I bet it helps that the two of us have young children so we are at home and not out waiting in line at the movies, smelling popcorn the whole time, or waiting for a table in a restaurant. Some people might feel deprived with not much "night life" but I'll take my temptation abatement any way I can get it!

I just squeaked it last night. Made supper, got the kids clean and off to bed, and I really wanted some fruit. I had 10 minutes to go before 8:00 so I sat down and ate my strawberries and blueberries before I cleaned the kitchen. I finished before 8 and then cleaned up the kitchen and did the laundry so I met my goal! I also met my weekly goal of 200 cardio minutes last week with 275 minutes for 1712 calories burned.

I'm sure that is why I'm losing weight again after a long plateau. Well, the cardio, the strength training, and this challenge together are probably all helping!

Okay, it is a fresh week. Anybody who did a practice run a few days last week, let's all re-start together and see how far everyone can make it this week!

Best,
Sheila emoticon

Last night makes 3 in a row! I'm excited! My TOTM is lurking and I was so tempted, but oddly enough I resisted.

Don't let one night's slip set you back...it's just a little blip...keep pushing on! I'm an all or nothing person so I'm reminding myself too!

Have a wonderful day!

Well, Harry Potter got me in the end. The show didn't get out until 8pm, and I was low enough in calories for the day (and hungry enough) that I really needed to eat dinner. So I went out to eat, and didn't end up getting served till about 9:30. So, definitely past the 8pm limit, but I'm quits for the night, despite my boyfriend's urgings to come have a beer with him.

Good luck to everyone else!

it's 7:35...no more eating for me today. I had a hard time posting what I had for dinner. I made a pasta concoction with shrimp, scallops, spinach, mushrooms etc. It was really good but I am not feeling inspired to enter each item and divide it out etc. I guesstimated and hope that I'm reasonably close!

I'm gonna try and scrapbook...I'm really tired, but I don't want to be tempted to eat anyting!

Good night ladies!
