A few years ago, I just knew I was never going to be over 150 pounds again. I miscalculated. I am finally back in the 140s and am continuing on my journey to optimum health while motivation others using Spark People and Coaching (www.JingBody.com).

Since re-starting this journey last year, I completed a goals of finishing both the Triple Crown of running and Derby Festival Mini-Marathon with my husband. Also, we ran the Las Vegas strip which we have been trying to accomplish for the past 2 years! I have also seen the scale move back down under the 150s for the first time in over 5 years. After years of experimenting, I finally figured out daily calorie tracking, 1200-1400 calories per day, primarily cardio workouts for loss/strength workouts to maintain, and 3 squares meals a day with an occasional snack is my magic formula for weight loss success.

I discovered Kundalini yoga DVDs with Ana Brett and Ravi Singh a couple of years ago (thanks Spark!) and they are a reasonable hippy-dippy antidote for my cynical nature. I do a lot of old Tae Bo, Turbo Jam/Fire, P90X, Chalean Extreme, and Bellydance DVDs thrown into the mix when the mood strikes. I have been branching out to circuit workouts lately and I am in love with Jackie Warner's Xtreme series and Michelle Dozois' Your Body Breakthru.

A few years ago I found out I had an elevated TSH level, no doubt from years and years of burning out my adrenals between studying, working, and partying. I worked with natural therapies and major lifestyle changes to get myself back in balance and hope to avoid a life-long relationship with medication.

I recently became a Family Nurse Practitioner and started my Doctorate in Nursing Practice this year but do not want to fall into the category of nurses who teach but cannot model healthful behaviors. I am also an acupuncturist/Doctor of Oriental Medicine and should be paid a commission for all of the people I refer to Spark People, Vitamin Shoppe, and Beach Body! Actually, I just became a Team BB coach to get a discount on Shakeology so I guess I do get a commission!

On the personal side, I am married to the best husband and we just celebrated our fourth year of marriage in May. We are both avid travelers and since he is a journalist, I am in the lucky position of getting to go with him on a lot of great adventures. We love Las Vegas and the Bordeaux region of France and would like to see every US state together. Both of us let our selves go once we hit 25 and are trying to work out way back to some shadow of our adolescent splendor. We also decided we are now ready to be parents after hemming, hawing, and living through a loss together - I think we even have the animals on board for it now!

My Goals:
My main diet goal is to cut the calories - I eat all of the things I should in far greater quantities than I am supposed to. I am working on stopping when full rather then being part of the clean plate club. I am working on dropping to my pre-settled-into-marriage weight so that I can tackle p90x or ChaLEAN Extreme among other things.

My scale goal is 130 which is still overweight for my size, but realistic for my build. I am giving myself a year.

My short term goal is to loose 1-2 pounds a week. I have been on an overeating binge for the past few weeks due to some stressors and am working on getting out of the slump.

My Program:
Doing whatever cardio sounds like fun daily, weight training with whatever DVD sounds like fun 2-3 times weekly, and a lot of Kundalini Yoga. I am paying myself $1 per workout and banking it in my Health Savings Account.

I am working on balancing out my diet and reducing overall intake of food. I have a big tendency to anemia so I tend to need a fair amount of protein and B vitamins. I also have an old-woman obsession with fiber and potassium intake so whole grains and fruits are a big deal. I have been sporadic with tracking on Spark and find that I do much better when I am consistent but not compulsive.

Personal Information:
The number one piece of advise I give to myself and to my patients is to set goals. It is the key to staying on track not just with your weight but with your life. My overall goal is holistic success and I work on it by setting SMART goals (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-bound) in these categories:

I have my goals for the year in my iTouch that I look at frequently. If I feel I am getting off track, I will set weekly or even daily goals with more specificity. The is nothing like checking something off the list to give a boost to your confidence and motivation.

Other Information:
"Be grateful for worthy opponents, for worthy opponents make us great"

"Stone walls do not a prison make, nor iron bars a cage."

"An armed society is a polite society"
