Hi! I'm Kristen and I live in Southern California. I want to lose about 75 lbs. total which will get me to a healthy BMI. If you want to know a whole heck of a lot more about me, I wrote an "origins" blog that basically lays out my road to being a (former) Fat Girl...because I'm DONE with that now! :-) Even though I can't do a link, you should be able to copy and paste: http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_j

As of May 19, 2009 I am an official Done girl! So in classic Done Girl style I have the following to say:
I am DONE making excuses!
I am DONE telling myself I can't be a runner!
I am DONE deleting all my pictures from the camera before anyone has a chance to see them!
I am DONE calling myself a Fat Cow!
I am DONE allowing my past to decide who I am today!
I am DONE telling myself I don't have time for exercise!
I am DONE not having collarbones because they are covered in fat!
I am DONE not having armpits!
I am DONE thinking my feet are the only cute part of my body!
I am DONE shopping in the fat section!
I am DONE being the fat friend!
Wow - I was actually selected as Done Girl of the Day for 7/31/09!! What an honor!!!!!! I am so humbled to think that I, little ol' me, is inspiring others! I love the DONE GIRLS! They just ROCK!!

The mascot I have chosen for my journey is the butterfly because just like a butterfly I can transform into something even more beautiful than I am now. I'm not a dowdy little caterpillar, but I haven't reached my full butterfly potential just yet either...both inside and out! So as Heimlich would say in his German accent in It's a Bugs Life - "I'm a beautiful butterfly"!

"The battle is never lost until you quit" I'm sure this quote has been said by a million people in a million different variations but I couldn't say for sure. So in this incarnation I attribute it to my sister, Heather, who said it in a blog comment and it just HIT me! Such wise words...

Update on 5/13/09 - I am working through my motivational images and quote and selected the following quote by Marilyn von Savant: "Being defeated is often temporary, giving up makes it permanent." I selected this quote because I refuse to give up! It can and may take me longer to achieve my goals than what I think, but I am not going to give in to them or discouragement. So many times before I have lost some weight and gone back to my wicked ways; but the reason I am here on SparkPeople today is because I never gave up! I may have been temporarily defeated, but I came back like a bad penny! I don't want this to be a temporary change, hence a DIET; this is a lifestyle change! I want being active and healthy to be so much a part of me that I don't even think twice about it.

Thanks Kristen for the nice, supportive Comment you left on my Blog (regarding my weight loss "mini goal"). You brightened up my day!

    Keep Sparkin!
    - - - - actually, you've probably been "cheating" these days & the pounds have been MELTING right off of you in heat-wave-choked California, right?

Hi Kristen, so happy to hear that your son is home & that you're enjoying the visit !!! When we hear that kind of good news, it makes ALL of us Military Moms extra, extra happy!
emoticon Praise the Lord for this wonderful blessing! emoticon
Poor Kristen, I hope we haven't drowned you with all of our well-intentioned advice. . . . it's just that some of us learned the 'hard' way and wanted to spare you some unexpected suprises or upsets. These military kids of ours return so quickly by plane that (according to one article I read) they don't have much time to "de-cellerate" and "decompress" back into civilian routines.
So it's good that you were already prepared to handle it smoothly.
Enjoy EVERY MINUTE of your time with him. emoticon
Makes me smile just to think how happy you both must be, the entire family too!
If he re-ups overseas, he will most likely get a bonus AND it will be TAX-FREE! emoticon Smart boy to do it that way.
I won't keep you any longer reading this post - - give him a hug & a kiss from our family & tell him he has some prayer warriors in Arkansas keeping him covered with all kinds of prayers!
Much Peace & Grace to You,

Welcome to the Blue Star Mom's Team. Remember that as a warrior's Mom you are the haert & strength of your Son's "home Team" - - the one he looks to for that special kind of comfort & support.

As the saying goes for us military Moms, "Our Hearts Are On The Line" but we are all proud of our kids - - our Heroes!!! God Bless You Kristen and may your Son return safely & happily to your loving arms soon. Oh - - and don't be surprised if he keeps on "disappearing with the buddies."
emoticon Our kids love to come back and seem to spend most of their time with their friends, chilling out. It doesn't mean they don't love us; just means that they're enjoying getting back into their comfort zone after their grueling experiences overseas.
    Hugs + Prayers,
    Air Force Mom of Stephanie
