Hey, well done on completing your first day of 5:2! I'm glad you managed it without too much trouble.
I've been doing 5:2 for about 16 months now. I think it's a bit of a learning process as we each discover what works best for us. As you say, some people don't count calories on non-fasting days and eat just what they like. Others find that - unless they're careful - they overcompensate and so don't lose weight (I fall into this category!). Yet others aren't following 5:2 to lose weight but are doing it for the other health benefits (that at least partly applies to me too).
I don't have any off-limits foods but try to exercise some restraint on non-fasting days so as not to eat TOO much. 1879 days ago

Hello Laura Thanks for dropping by my Spark Page. I'm happy to discuss 5:2 with you - feel free to ask anything you like. There's also a 5:2 Spark Team which you'd be very welcome to join/ visit and another one on Intermittent Fasting, which has many of the same team members.
So far, I haven't had any problems training (running - including hill reps and sprints as well as 2-hour cross-country runs; weight training; and swimming) on fasting days. I think we tend to panic about not having enough energy to train whereas our bodies have got loads of stored energy waiting to be used. On fasting days I eat my 500 calories in the evening i.e. after training.
It's meant to be good for stabilising blood sugar levels, increasing fat burning and increasing our bodies' sensitivity to insulin.
I haven't had the confidence to try racing anything longer than a 5K on a fasting day. I think it would be fine to do more, I just haven't dared try it for a race that I care about!
The Spark article about intermittent fasting suggested having 5 or 6 tiny meals spread throughout the day. This might well work for some people, but as I understand the science, the whole point of intermittent fasting isn't so much the calorie restriction but giving your body a decent break from digesting and dealing with food. I think the 5:2 diet books suggests anything from 14 hours to a maximum of 36 hours without eating. I usually go about 20 hours without food on a fasting day.

Hi! We are doing It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play. The setting is a 1940's radio station. We tell the story to a studio audience in front of old fashioned microphones because it is supposed to be a live radio broadcast on Christmas Eve. We have multiple characters that we play by using different mannerisms and different voices. We have a Foley artist for the sound effects, We are radio stars and so we get to dress up in fancy 40's clothes and tell the story. It is really neat. I think we are playing a sold out show tonight. We are running through the weekend.
Thanks so much for asking!! Maybe I should blog about it and put the links in to connect to the newspaper reviews and pictures. I do not have time right now, but then you could see us on stage!
Peace and Blessings!! Merry Christmas!! 2311 days ago
