I was well on my way to my weight loss goal when an old ankle injury started to cause problems - frequent turning of my ankle while walking, pain while climbing, hiking, etc. On May 12, 2010 I had a modified Brostrom procedure to repair the ATFL in my right ankle. I spent the first 6 weeks in a hard cast, completely non weight-bearing and forced to keep it elevated while I laid on the couch like a slug.

The only positive was that it renewed my commitment to being as active as possible once I am cleared to resume physical activity. I'm determined to stay focused throughout my recovery and as I start grad school in late August. I love going to Physical Therapy and am working hard to get back to full mobility!

My Goals:
120 lbs is just a guess... I'll see how I feel/look when I get close and re-evaluate. Ultimately I want to be in much better shape and feel better about what I see in the mirror. I would like to be able to wear shorts and tank tops without feeling self-conscious.

My Program:
Sensible, controlled carb eating with an emphasis on whole foods and portion control. Cardio in the mornings before work, strength training and indoor climbing in the evenings and active outdoor fun on the weekends (hiking and biking, hopefully outdoor climbing).

Personal Information:
I was born and raised in Texas and have lived in the SF Bay Area and Northern New Mexico. We moved to Howard County, MD in Aug 2007 and I'm adjusting to life on the East Coast. I've been married nearly 16 years and have one son and two dogs - a 10 yr old Rott/Lab cross and a recently adopted 1 yr old Plott Hound mix.

Other Information:
I'm a huge Terry Pratchett fan but will read almost anything - from Jane Austen to Stephen King. I am trying to learn to knit and aspire to being one of those "crafty" types. ;-)
