    Hi Alicia,

I'm afraid I won't be much help here so I'm going to copy your original question so that someone more savvy than me can chime in.

"Re: Couch to 5K--What do you use to time the "walk 4 minutes, run 1" or "walk 2, run 2"? Seems like quite the hassle to look at the sweep second hand on my watch. Is there a gadget that will tell me "run now" "now walk" or even declare the minutes? I do have a smart phone, but I'm rather inept at using it. I've been struggling with Endomondo, but at least I can get time, distance, and speed from it."

    Here's my two cents.

My wife and I may be the last people in the US who have never owned a cell phone, much less a smart one. When I started, I used a Timex Ironman sports watch. Then I graduated through a couple Garmins. The truth is that precision is not important here. After a couple runs you will know landmarks. If you live in a city, you might just measure your minutes in blocks with a running block taking 2/3 the time a walking block takes. Walk three blocks, run two, or something like that. I live in a very rural area and used trees and driveways. Search "c25k phone app" online. If you have an MP3 player, you could try this: www.c25k.com/podcasts.htm and use music as your timer.
