Over the years, I have been off and on with a steady exercise program... I honestly say more on than off! The last 2 1/2 years, I got back into my running program and had been doing very well. My 20 year reunion was in the summer of 2008 and I looked and felt great then and even ran a half marathon 10/2008. The start of 2009 was busy with moving and remodeling a house, but I kept my exercise program going.

Then in October, on my way to work out at my gym, I got into a car accident. The accident slowed me down - back, neck, leg and side pain meant little or no exercising. My tests showed that my spine is great but revealed I have a HUGE hemagioma in my liver, that has replaced the right lobe of my liver in its entirety. What does that mean? Well, I have had it since birth, it's benign, but was probably irritated in my accident. I see a liver specialist at Baylor in Dallas and will probably have it removed. That's major surgery and I will need to be at the top of my game to recover from that!

I am easing back into an exercise program after being placed on REST and a regimen of anti-inflammatories and pain meds. I am looking forward to starting a walking routine and easing back into a program.

Now, I am getting back on track. As for goals, I would like to be able to run 2 miles before my surgery and lose about 8 pounds before surgery. I also discovered I am anemic so I am working on a better diet and iron supplements.

My Program:

Exercise daily! Even if it is cold outside. No excuses.

I am following the premise of the 5-Factor program, on my own! Basically, eat 5 small meals a day and each meal contains 5 parts: lean protein, good carbs, healthy fat, 5-10 grams of fiber, and a sugar-free beverage (my fave is green tea). That sounds easy and is a better way to eat. Fat gets a bad rap - our brains are 75% fat. You need to eat some fat to keep the noggin functioning, but in the form of healthy fat. Snacking is OK - but who needs potato chips, crackers and pop tarts when you can eat almonds, cheese, yogurt and fruit! A couple of dark chocolate Hershey's kisses hit the sweet spot when I need them.

I am glad to be back and can't wait to start on my new goals!

    While I’m here I will share with you a few quotes I found today . . . .

“Success in anything seems to be connected with action. Successful people keep moving. They make mistakes but don’t quit. They hang on after others have let go.” ~ Unknown

“it isn’t sufficient just to want; you’ve got to ask yourself what you are going to do to get the things you want.” ~ Franklin D. Roosevelt

“True enjoyment comes from activity of the mind and exercise of the body, the two are united.” ~ Alexander von Humboldt

    Happy Birthday to You!

Born today, you are one of those special individuals who can affect what is going on in a room simply by entering it; the energy, dynamics, rhythms and flow of thought, talk and ideas will all change, in subtle or dramatic ways, simply because you are on the scene. You are a dynamic individual, but you're not all that forceful in situations that require a more quiet, subtle touch; you don't feel the need to force yourself on any individual or situation -- rather, you are confident that if your methods and ideas are valid, they will be adopted when the time comes.

Confident, easygoing, amiable and always on the lookout for those who share your ways, ideas and ambitions, you are sure to succeed provided you are always true to yourself. At least once in your life you may find that others want to direct your life course, but this you must not allow.

    Hope your day is wonderful!
