In 2006, I weighed 230 pounds, smoked, and never exercised. I joined Spark, lost almost 50 pounds, and became a runner. In 2009, I finished the NYC Marathon at about 185 pounds. In 2010, I tried to train for NY again but ended up with severe tibial stress reactions that sidelined me for several months, during which I took up cycling and swimming and became a triathlete.

In March of this year I was hovering around 193 pounds - offseason weight gain - when I lost my job and started a stint on my couch. Suddenly, I was over 200 lbs again, even though I had all the time in the world to train! Hhhmmmph. Guess it's time to get back in control, right? I have a few short races and fun rides planned to close out the year, and I intend to complete my first Half Iron (Timberman 70.3) in August of 2013.

I love to exercise - though I lack consistency - but I love to eat even more! My first goals include getting more consistent activity including weight training (which I neglect) and controlling my diet by favoring protein and healthy fats over carbohydrates.

Thanks for commenting on my blog. I am not sure what happened today. I did hear the victim was seriously wounded, but expected to live. I should know more tomorrow.

Thanks for stopping by my blog about Wendy's!

I really see what you and some of the other posters mean that Wendy is very relatable for a lot of people. I'm not one to indulge in fat hate (um, duh), which I was afraid was how my blog would come off (I'm glad nobody thought so!) but just looking at her all I could think was "why would I want to eat what you eat!!!"

As for the fat people can = super fit, I soooo feel you on the weird looks. The look of surprise, nay, shock on people's faces when I mention my time at the half marathon or that I can bench press over 100 pounds would be comical if it weren't so insulting. I also knew someone once who literally could be Wendy's physical twin and she did triathalons all the time. Can't just a book by its cover and all that! :-)

    Have a great day!

You are so right about running warming you up in the winter versus biking!

I haven't been in a pool for ages. And I want a tri to be the motivation that pulls me through winter training, so psychologically it's better as a goal than something I just do on a whim.

The ride should be lots of fun. We start on the roof of a local restaurant for superhero photos, then ride all around town to various bars for refreshments! I think biking with mouse ears zip-tied to my helmet will be hysterical!
