I've been gone awhile. Haven't lost, haven't gained. And I have gotten more fit, taking Qi Gong/tai qi classes twice weekly. They are a workout. And maintaining my walking.

Time to get on with it, again. I hate feeling heavy. I don't like what I see in the mirror, and in videos of myself.

I recognize that I can help my Arthritis pain (which HAS worsened a lot) by losing 25 more lbs.

. ...Shopping is just unpleasant - looking for cute clothes, and finding the nice ones only in the smaller sizes. It happened to me just yesterday, at Goodwill. They had all these cute cottom blazers (jackets) in great condition, but the size Larges were too tight! Just frustrating and upsetting.

I have had a life-long weight problem, starting with being a chubby baby, and so on... I have Arthritis of the hip/back which can be Very painful. I've been an avid walker for years, and with all the extra weight I've carried, my poor bones/joints show the effect.

I have lost 15 lbs so far.. and regained 5 lbs. Lost 2 of the 5 that I regained. SO I'm 12 down .I have health problems, that affect my energy, so I do my exercising when I have enough energy.

But I am out there walking every day. Thank God my legs are still strong. I am starting to look better.

THIS time, I plan on going All the Way, with the help of Spark and a growing self-confidence!

Fitness Minutes: 235

My Goals:
I want to lose 30 lbs, to be in the 150's.

First goal - size 15/16 dress, size 38 jean.
or a size 16 pants.

2nd goal - shrink the belly and lose the love handles, or at least whittle them down!

3rd goal-be able to say No to sweets, even if they are offered to me, from someone else or at a party!
Free food - my weaknesss.






My Program:
staying away from Sugar and processed foods. Small meals, 4 times a day.

Walk every day, for at least 45 minutes.

Just joined gym - YMCA- and will go 3X a week, minimum.



Personal Information:
I am 59 years old. Born in New York City, have lived in San Francisco, California, since I was about 25 yrs old...I love to sing jazz, for fun and for profit, and I do animal rights volunteer work. I am Spiritual, not religious, and my Spirituality is very important to me. I am passionate about Astrology, have studied it for many years.


Other Information:
I am single, and live by myself. I love to read books on Metaphysics, from authors such as Carolyn Myss, and Dan Millman such as "The Life you were Born to Live". Carolyn Myss wrote "Sacred Contracts". Amazing. I also participated in Oprah's online class recently on the book A New Earth.

I am an Aquarius, with Moon in Sag. and Cancer rising.

    Ellen is NOT a very common name here either -- I've only known a couple (other than the family Ellens) in my whole life . . . but it's a name I do like and am glad to have. It's not a name that was popular during a certain period of time and so immediately signals how old you are -- has never been really common, so far as I can tell, but also is kinda "classic" and not too "out there".

    Thanks for your comments on my "getting the weight movin" and "smoking will power" blogs! I too was amazed to learn that when I don't pre-plan my foods, I'm making 200 food decisions a day. I also realized that about 198 of those decisions were good ones but it only took 1 or 2 "bad" ones a day to sabotage everything else I was doing. Just 100 extra calories a day (hardly anything, an apple . . .) translates into 10 extra pounds a year -- and then 10 more pounds the next year . . . and so on!!That's how I'd put on 80 pounds in the first place!! And -- it's nice to know that all those struggles with "drug of choice", if successful, probably had the effect of INCREASING will power and actually changing the structure of the brain!! So encouraging . . . really! If we did it once, we can do it again and in fact are more likely to succeed!!

    Hey, Ellen -- No guff at all. It's true that I don't know when to stop! But middle age is creating some limits for me that I didn't have before, which I am totally bummed about. I'm going to try the B vitamins. I use seaweed,chinese herbs, and more...but maybe I should add ginseng, too!

    Is Ellen a family name for you? I'm kinda chuffed to be "Ellen the fifth" in my family . . . so often the men's names get passed down the line, but the women's not so much!! (And, yeah, I did "impose" is as a middle name for my daughter . . . ).

    Yup, spring is very helpful to me for weight loss and health, in general. I'm hitting a stretch of heavy commitment and obligations, though...just came back from a 15-hour day...and dang if I'm not feeling pretty wiped out! Trying to take it slow and deliberate today to bring my energy back. It ain't easy being over 50. :)
