I've walked many 5K races. This is the first time I RAN one! Not bad for age 67. Shamrock'n in Sacramento.

Hi Barb (hope this is right, got it from another comment on your page). As for my comment about ONE minute of stairs, I had no clue about your fitness level. Lots of folks on Spark are starting from square one. So my comment was intended to mean: start with one minute, if you need to. I now see from your Spark Page that you're pretty fit and doubt you'd need to start at that level. So start wherever is comfortable for you, with the idea of starting small and working up to it. I'm betting Sacramento has lots of buildings that have stairs and/or stairwells ...

Because you asked, my stair climbing background comes from training to hike the Grand Canyon, which I did 2-1/2 years ago. I work on the 9th floor of a 16-story building. I was told that stairwell climbing was THE BEST training you could do because you really need both the up and the down pieces. You don't typically get that on a stair stepper - only the up piece. So I started with the following, taking on a 2-month training plan:

9th Floor up to 16th Floor, down to 1st Floor, back up to 9th Floor.
I did that for a few weeks, then upped it to twice a day.
Then three times a day. According to my FitBit, that was the equivalent of climbing about 75 flights a day.
It did the trick. I had a marvelous time in the Grand Canyon and was well-prepared.

Congrats to you on your weight loss and your health journey. Hoping it continues to be a great one ... Thanks!!!

Hi. If you want/need a little push...consider joining us for an 8 week challenge. Why not join the X-WEIGHTED CHALLENGE? We're all ages, all fitness levels, all striving to live a healthier life. There is always something to learn from each other. These teams are also a great source of motivation! We can become healthier by working together and making new friends as we go. We compete in weekly nutrition and fitness challenges. It is similar to the Biggest Loser team. There are 3 teams that compete within the X-Weighted team. We do ATC (All Teams Challenge) various challenges (nutrition, fitness etc.) The main requirement is to post your weight weekly. The ATC challenges and/if individual teams have challenges are optional (however, very beneficial). If you have any questions, please let me know.

Hello Barb, just stopping by to say hello. I am on and off Spark but finally noticed you have tried to re-energize the Spark Sacramento page. I will do my best to interact there if you are still here as well!

Like you said, we do have to keep telling ourselves we can do it, don't we? Just when I think life has calmed down, I learn the calm period was just a break to catch my breath! LOL

BTW...your before and after pictures are AMAZING! I know that took a lot of HARD WORK...WOW!
