My mother struggled with her weight her whole life, and when she passed away from cancer in 2004, it became clear that had she not been so heavy, she would have seen and felt the tumours growing inside her, and perhaps survived. 3 years after that, my metabolism nosedived, and I took a desk career that I love, and I gained 40 pounds in what seemed an instant.

I want to be thin and healthy so I can live a long life, so I can be strong for my family. I won't go down for something I can change. My main goal in life is to live a healthy life - I understand this is a lifestyle change that is forever, and one that most of the time, I love living.

I work in the advertising industry, so am very close to the images that so warp our perceptions of beauty. I am surrounded my models all the time, and it's given me a somewhat warped perspective of myself. I'm working hard at measuring my body rather than weighing it, because I find that although I might like my weight for a week, as soon as I get used to it, I see myself as fat again. I'm trying hard to be gentle with myself.

In the last 2 years I have lost 40 pounds, and am now losing my last ten pounds. I'm finding it the struggle of a lifetime, and hope that Sparkpeople will be the balance that I need.

My Goals:
I'm trying to stop emotional eating. I eat when I'm bored and lonely. I struggle with this, especially on weekends.

I'm trying to avoid using recreational drugs. I was a chronic marijuana user for three years - and that's not helpful when you're trying to lose weight. I'm doing really well with this goal.

I'm trying to get seven hours of sleep a night. My boyfriend lives in LA, three time zones behind, so it's easy to stay up too late talking with him.

I'm also trying to remember to take my prescriptions more regularly, and keep up with my other medical responsibilities - take better care of myself, and that includes my 8 glasses of water a day!

I am quite good at keeping my promise of working out five times a week, and sometimes, I do a little more! I love the gym.


My Program:
On most days, I fall well between 1200-1550 calories, and with Sparkpeople, am eating the right things more often.

I do cardio 5 nights a week - 350-375 calories on the nights that I just do cardio, and about 175-200 calories on the two nights that I do resistance. Sometimes that's Spark workouts, othertimes it's a bodypump class that really gets me going!

When the weather is good, I replace lots of treadmill and eliptical with rollerblading, longboarding, and crewing on a sailboat.



Personal Information:
I'm a producer for a very busy advertising photographer, so that means long hours on big sets and organizing lots of people and other crazy details - everything from live cattle to craft services. I love my job.

I live in Toronto, I have a wonderful boyfriend who lives in LA. My last night at a resort in Mexico was his first - and after less than 24 hours together, here we are, almost 2 years later. We see each other every 3 or 4 weeks, and have visited some incredible places. We are both very outdoorsy, and hike, camp, canoe together. He helped me realize I could do things I didn't think I could ever do again, like climb mountains or longboard incredible hills.
