Just accepted the SparkPeople 8-week diabetes weight loss challenge 6 days ago--so far I've lost 7 lbs. (But I don't know how reliable my scale is. The important thing is my weight and my blood glucose levels have gone down.) My goal is to lose 50 pounds by next July.

Well, it's been a little less than 7 months since I joined SparkPeople. I'm happy with the progress I've made toward adopting a healthier lifestyle. I'm exercising on a regular basis (usually 6 days/week, at least 30 min/day), watching my portion sizes, watching the amount of carbohydrates I eat (though the low blood glucose issues have me eating more carbs than I'd like), and trying to get in those 4 fruit/vegetable servings and 8 glasses water/day.

I've lost 30 lbs. more or less, which is good, but I'm disappointed that my weight loss has slowed as much as it has. At the rate I'm currently going, I won't meet the 50 lb-loss by July 2012. I do so want to be out of the obese BMI category, so I'm still committed to following the healthy living plan. I would just like to see more results.

So where to from here? I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow. After that, I will reassess my efforts and try to focus on getting healthier (that means keeping my cholesterol and blood glucose under control) and staying fit (continuing to exercise on a regular basis). I would like to eat fewer carbohydrates as well since I think that will contribute to greater weight loss.

The team challenges have been a great motivator in helping me to continue to exercise. Thanks to all the people who take the time to create them and keep them going.

Personal Information:
I'm married with two adult children, and I have 3 grandchildren. My mother, who has Alzheimer's, lives with me, and I am her primary caretaker. We live in the Chicago area.
