My Goals:
- no off limits foods
- focus on urges which use food to smother emotions...bring them to the front and then let the urges pass without acting on them.
- fix my habit of using food to deal with emotions and stress.
- excercise
- give myself credits for even small things
- be kind to myself

- the book "Ditching Diets" by Gillian Riley...as with her book listed below this book also helped me understand about how the habit using of food to smother emotions is perpetuated...her book also helped me notice the urges and also provided information on how to let the urge pass.
- the book "Eating Less: Say Goodbye To Overeating" by Gillian Riley...this book has helped be understand about the habit of overeating, why it happens, and how to change this addictive habit.
- the book "Brain Over Binge" ...breaking the brain-learned habit of bingeing on food.
"The Beck Diet Solution" by Judith Beck
"Diets Still Don't Work" by Bob Schwartz

Married for 20 years to my soul-mate Charlie.

    Another value to NO S, IMHO, is that it takes some of the attention off wondering at any moment if I'm eating because I'm hungry or not. If it's meal time, I get to eat. If not, I don't. I try to eat my meals so that I will be hungry for the next one, but if not, I eat a reasonable meal anyway.

    I actually choose to eat less often on S days! But that's not the way I started. S days can be crazy, but that is not proof it isn't working.

    Welcome to No S. I found it is a great balance for emotional eating between the often recommended Intuitive Eating, which I could never get right, and a "diet." I've learned to go far longer than I might normally have without eating (in a good way), but it has also allowed me to eat for legitimate social reasons. There are no slim cultures in the world in which most members eat alone most of the time and remain slim.

    I still WANT to eat emotionally sometimes and sometimes actually do. But having the habit of eating real meals allows me to satisfy many needs and wants. Ok, enough sermonizing!

    The real value won't come for several months. I hope you hang in there! there is SO much pressure to "diet," snack, restrict, etc. People can't believe that you can learn to eat less by eating mostly meals. Better to let them ask you what you've been doing months down the line rather than try to convince them of it.
