My name is Cyndi. I am 5'7" and weigh 364.4 pounds as of about one minute ago! My weight-gain story goes something like this:

I was always an active kid, and was pretty slender until I reached my teens. I gained a tiny bit of weight at that point... maybe 10 - 15 lbs. I thought I was a cow, of course, as all teens seem to do, but I think I was just going through a "baby fat" stage. I lost the weight though, and was at a pretty darned healthy weight until I reached about 23. At that age, I started to have panic attacks. I began to gain weight when I began to have panic attacks. I quit my job and practically became a hermit. I gained 100 lbs within one year.

Over the last ten years, I have struggled with panic attacks, and steadily gained weight. A couple of years ago, I reached the 350 - 360 range, and I seem to have stuck there. (Whew! At least it's not going up, up, up any more.) I have made some attempts to lose weight in the past, most notably, when my hubby was in the desert, for the war. I was quite successful while he was gone, but regained the 40 or 50 lbs I had lost, after he came home.

About a year ago, I suddenly began to have wonderful success at dealing with my panic attacks. I am still cautious about ingesting things like caffeine, and I still take my medication daily... but for the most part I am panic free! Yay!!

Now I am ready to make a committed effort to lose weight. Of course I would like to do it faster, but I wanted to set a very reasonable goal. If I lose 5 pounds, it's like a drop of water in a bucket... it's not even noticeable! BUT, I know that, over time it WILL be noticeable. It will add up, slowly but surely. That's why I started this group. And 5 lbs is an easy goal for me, at my weight, so I know that it will guarantee me success -- which is such a great way of reinforcing life changes!

My Program:
My hubby and I have switched to a low glycemic lifestyle. Lots of fruits and veggies, lean proteins and whole grains. It's not hard to stick to -- in fact, it's pretty satisfying! We eat 4 -5 times a day, so we never actually get the opportunity to become hungry.

Personal Information:
I live in central Texas, which is our home... but we go wherever the Army sends us. LOL They just happened to send us to our hometown!

Other Information:
I love watersports and I miss Hawaii for one reason -- the ocean!!!

Thank you Cindy for your kind words. It was a hell of a ride but I can tell you it is doable and the rewards are great. If you persist and don't give up it is an amazing feeling to see the results. So I do encourage you and put your heart and soul in this and you will be successful. If you need encouragement don't hesitate, it will make me happy to support you.

Welcome, I too am a Newbie to SP. But I am finding a lot of encouragement and support. Utilize all that SP has to offer. It make the journey a little easier to navigate. And reach out to those around you when you get discouraged. Just don't give up.
