Hi! Welcome to my page. I am updating my Sparkpage, since I haven't done so in almost four years. It is May of 2018 and I am a success. I have reached my goal weight, thanks to the 5% Challenges I have participated in the past year and a half. I started the Challenges, because I had ballooned to 160- up from when I began my journey with the Sparkpeople - from 120 pounds. I have lost 40 pounds to date and have kept it off only because of my participation in the 5% Challenge Cycles. I have maintained my weight for over a year and a half. I began the 5% Challenge experience - because it is an experience - in the 2016 Fall 5% Challenge. I lost over 20 pounds during that Challenge cycle alone. The following 5% Challenge cycle during the 2017 Winter 5% Challenge I lost another 22 pounds. I had made it back to my goal weight, with what seemed like no real effort at all. It is because I have committed myself to the 5% Challenge and lifestile experience, I have been able to keep my emotional eating and other problematic weight challenges under control. I've had fun doing it all and met so many wonderful people along the way. I feel privileged to be a part of something so terrific and fulfilling. I am a Sparkperson for life. I am 5% Challenger for as long as I can move. I've have so much to be grateful for and I have been blessed with the 5% Challenges to help me maintain my hopes for the future me. I have gone to the mountain and conquered it. Now I stay for the motivation and unimaginable encouragement, that I receive to keep me on track and moving. The Challenges have changed my life. I am content with my efforts, choices and results. ROWDY REBELS RULE !! DON'T SETTLE, BE A REBEL. You can do it too.

Update: September 28, 2017

I have been maintaining my weight since the Fall 5% Challenge in 2016 and find that the 5% Challenges help me to maintain and continue with my healthy lifestyle changes. I have had no major life events this past year. Everything has been mostly normal. I have spent a lot of time with my grand kids and enjoy that immensely. I take care of my 6 year old, autistic grand son every day for his single, working parent mother. He is high on the spectrum, so he is not much trouble. I have a happy life with my kids and grand kids. I have had a hospitalization this summer, but I should be up and running by the time this year's Fall 5% Challenge begins on October 7, 2017. These challenges are made for those seeking to lose 5% of their weight in eight weeks. They are tons of fun and are very effective as teams compete in friendly competition for exercise and life style minutes. If you've never experienced a 5% Challenge you should check it out. They are fun, a positive experience and very motivational.

Update: September 18,2016

During the summer of 2015 I regained the 20 pounds that I lost and gained another 25 more. Thanks to medication changes I have had a really rough time. I have that all straightened out now and have regrouped losing 20 pounds this summer. That leaves 25 pounds to lose to get to my goal of 118 -120. I am starting this new push at 145 pounds. I have joined the 5% Challenge to try to help lose that 25 pounds. If I am successful, then I will be that much closer to my goal weight. I should say that I was at goal weight twice on this journey. This time the weight is coming off and I will keep it off. Adjusting my diet and exercise has helped me lose the 20 pounds that I have. I am ready to lose this pesky 25 pounds and maintain my weight at my goal weight before the end of 2016 if I can. Wish me luck. The third time is the charm. Thanks for stopping by my page. Fitness Minutes: 120,687

My Goals:
My goals are very simple. I want to lose 25 pounds to reach my goal weight. I want to exercise to become healthier and to be a good example for the rest of my family.

My Program:
I am in the process of reconnecting with my gym. It is only ten dollars a month, so it is very affordable. I had to take a sabbatical from the gym the summer of 2016. Micah was out of school, so that left me exercising at home with my Sparkpeople - Coach Nicole - DVD's. I have three, which have helped me dump 20 pounds during the summer. I am walking on the treadmill and working out on the elliptical. I am cutting out all sweets and have increased my fruit/veggie consumption. I will be tracking all my meals and exercise. I will be using my DVD's, as well as getting to the gym a minimum of three days a week. My goal is to do 120 minutes of exercise a week.

Personal Information:
My name is Deb Teveldahl, originally from Cascade Locks, Oregon I have moved to the southeast Portland area. I have two children. Sam is 36 and Jeni is 34. I have three grandsons now. Blaine 10, Hayden 4 years, Micah 7. I watch all my grand children when the need arises, but I live with my daughter. I help take care of Micah full time when he is out of school.

Other Information:
I enjoy reading, quilting, embroidery, and knitting. I am an avid reader. I've read the Spark. My favorite fiction authors are James Patterson and Tami Hoag. I enjoy camping, hiking and biking so I live in the right area.

    Congrats on taking the next step to reaching a healthier you by getting active with SparkPeople - it's a great community, wonderful resources and fantastic support. You're off to a great start already!

    Please check out the SparkTeams - I think you will find a lot of others 'just like you' there or at least others who have similar characteristics and circumstances. You can choose SparkTeams by age group, lifestyle or interests, geographic location or several other ways.

    Some of the teams I like and think you might like include the Official 10-minute Daily Exercise Streak Challenge, Starting Over Weekly Mini-Challenge Team, 10k Steps A Day and Motivation & Positive Attitude Plan - but there are so many to choose from, you can have a great time looking for the ones that seem to fit you best! In fact, I suggest joining more than one group, post your intro there and write blogs as often as you can - you will find tons of friends and support that way, I promise!!

    In my experience, SparkPeople is like a emoticon in some ways - it's lots of fun and easy to make friends because we're all in this together. I like the way a HEALTHY LIFESTYLE is emphasized instead of a 'quick fix wonder diet' so it's good for people wanting to lose weight, maintain a previous loss, get healthier, improve fitness and many other goals including gaining weight or saving money - it's about waaaaaay more than 'just' losing weight so you have definitely come to the right place!


    If you ever need any help using features of the site, there are tutorial videos under the HELP section that can show you how to use the features of the site. You can also find them on the START page and several other places on the site.


    Be sure to read and 'study' The Spark book because it outlines the overall program and is compatible with most types of eating plans. If you haven't already discovered the SparkDiet linked at the bottom of the START page, check it out - the program is simple but extremely effective. There is a TON of information on this site - so much it might even seem overwhelming but fortunately we don't have to 'digest' everything at once! The FastBreak program is a good way to start.


    Another nice thing about SparkPeople is that we have permission to be human - we don't have to change everything at once or be in a hurry to reach our goals. Take a few baby steps and then a few more and before you know it, you'll have completed a long journey - I hope you enjoy this community as much as I have - it teaches us how to make positive lifetime changes because that's the only thing that will work over time!
