My husband's family is coming to Iowa over Labor Day 2009 for a family reunion. The first picture to the left was taken at the last family reunion, which was about 40 lbs ago. I am highly motivated to be at my target weight by the time this next family reunion rolls around! Not that they really care, but I DO! And, with the help of my SparkPeople friends, my trainer & keeping my butt at the gym while eating healthy, I know I can do it!

I joined Spark People about a year ago, and got off to a great start! Then, I allowed life to get in the way. While I've been able to maintain my 40lb weight loss, I haven't lost more. I quit working out, and allowed myself to fall back into old routines. So, time to refocus. Here's to feeling fine in 2009!


Why am I doing this? Because I am tired. I will be 40 this year, and I am tired of being overweight. I am tired of seeing pictures of myself and thinking, "Do I really look like THAT?" Just a bad camera angle, of course. Not me! I am tired of trying to go shopping just to find that none of the close fit right. It's the style, right? Not me! I am tired of excuses.

I have three beautiful daughters. One eye opener was when my 13-year old started saying she was fat. This child is in 8th grade, same height as me, and weighs 84 lbs soaking wet. She wears pants that are a size 00! And she thinks she's fat?!? It was easy to blame society at first. You've all seen the ads, & super thin models. Then I started to realize how many times I had said I was fat. How many times I complained about my jeans not fitting correctly, or a shirt being too short, or the dread of swimsuit shopping. I am doing this because I am tired of setting a bad example for my girls. We no longer talk about being fat or thin. We talk about being healthy. Healthy eating. Healthy exercise. Healthy thinking. That is why I am doing this. That is why I will succeed.

My first goal was "40 by 40." I wanted to lose 40 lbs by my 40th birthday.

As of 40th b-day in May, '08, lost 37 lbs (close!)

Target weight - a total of 75 lbs - lost by Labor Day, 2009!!!

My Program:
I just added a "work out buddy" to my fitness program. I realized that I need someone to hold me more accountable for my workouts, and if someone is meeting me, I'll be less likely to find an excuse to NOT exercise.

Funny thing is, I LOVE to work out! I love the time alone, and the knowledge I'm doing something FOR ME! I've been allowing other things (kids, activities, spouse, other family) to get in the way. NO MORE!
