I recently became an empty nester, got a new puppy, Fiona, and left my job. My health has deteriorated over the past 4 years, 50+ pounds, complications from my diabetes, etc. By chance I saw a different doctor for a emergent issue, and he took a special interest in my health and helping me lose weight.

My goal is to lose 50 lbs before my next birthday.

My Goals:
My goals for the next year are:

To lose 50lbs by my next birthday (January 30)

To get my A1c down to 6.2, fasting glucose 100.

To increase my aerobic activity to 4 hours a week.

To meet new people virtually and on line.

To be able to complete the Bolder Boulder next May (10K).

Long term goals:

To lose an additional 20 lbs and maintain that weight long term.

To never have to be embarrassed about my weight again!

My Program:
I am following the Diabetes nutrition quidelines on SparkPeople.

I love to cook and entertain, and do not consider any foods taboo, all in moderation.

My intent is to still enjoy what I am eating, and make food that is alos apealing to my family and guests.

In the past I have created many great recipes that are healthy and are enjoyed by all; I will continue to create, maybe soem day I will be able to have my own cook book!

Personal Information:
I was born in Phoenix, and lived there for 30 years One summer it was 122 degrees and they had to close the airport. The next Spring we moved to beautiful Colorado. This is the most wonderful place in the world!

My husband Mark is the most wonderful man in the world! He loves me no matter what I look like, and never gets angry about my physical limitations.

I have two sons, Geoff (26)and Nate (22). They are amazing and I love them so much!

    Do you live in Colorado? I hope you didn't have anyone close involved in that Movie Theater shooting. It has really saddened the nation, I know it has saddened my family because you can't be safe anywhere.

    I know what you mean about getting the challenge started. I have been keeping up with doing something every day. Not sure about suggestions right now, but let me think. How about doing some ten minute type of workout - not too hard - after dinner to work off some of the calories? Like a walk or squats, situps, pushups & jumping jacks or some dancing? emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

    Thanks for commenting on my (stupid) blog. I was having a pity party again (I'm pathetic) but was trying to be honest. This is not easy. I've gained and lost 30 lb+ several times in my life but my addiction (yes, addiction!) to salty greasy foods always seems to derail me. Just can't be happy or satisfied with 1 serving...

    Pita and egg roll wrappers present the same problems for me. Not too salty or greasy but carbs and my love of carbs probably was a contributing factor in my developing type 2 diabetes.

    Maybe I should save up and try hypnosis? emoticon
