Dory: Hey, Mr Grumpy Gills. When life gets you down, you know what you gotta do?

Marlin: I don't wanna know what you gotta do.

Dory: Just keep swimming
Just keep swimming
Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming
What do we do?
We swim, swim, swim.

~Finding Nemo

I have battled with being overweight for most of my life. In high school, though, my body was as close to 'perfect' as it ever had been. Though, even then, I found fault with it. Mental scars left behind from less than kind peers in Middle School. Being called 'Cow' will do that to you, I think... High school was different, though. As a result of being in marching band and/or on the flag team all four years, I was ALWAYS moving, it seemed.

With graduation, that all changed, though. My level of activity changed, but my eating habits did not. I could no longer eat everything that I wanted and still remain thin.

Add to that... giving birth to three children and a history of emotional eating that was instilled in me at a young age... I've developed a body that I'm less than proud of. One that will not get me through as long of a life as I'm hoping to have.

I've tried to lose the weight many times, but any success that I may have had didn't last for long. It probably doesn't help that the picture that is my current body is deeply ingrained in my mind...

I want to regain my 'other body' and keep it.

Okay, admittedly, I'm not too sure about the whole measuring thing. I'm not sure about where the tape measure is supposed to hit in certain spots (ie the hips). The measurements that I did at the beginning of Spring Into Summer is proof of that because I KNOW I haven't gained inches... I've lost two pant sizes, but my measurements have gone up (with the exception of my neck). Just shows I'm not too sure what I'm doing with them. But, here are my (estimated) measurements for the beginning of this new challenge.

Neck: 13.75"
Bust: 42.5"
Arm: 14.75"
Waist: 37.25"
Hips: 48.5"
Thigh: 28"

Current Weight: 197
Goal Weight for this Challenge: 189 (180-Ville!)

Total Miles: 397

Miles thus far: 16.1

Last 'stop': Camp at the end of Day One. Day two: Continue east on the Road at a leisurely pace. (11 miles)

Next 'stop': Frogmorton. Stay at The Floating Log. (23 miles)

Miles to go: 3163.9

Note: 5/28/09 - I took a bit of a break on the trail here, but now that I have a pedometer, I'm keeping track of my progress each day, and I'm back at it.

3/24/09 - I've come across quite a few inspirational individuals here at SP, and it is from some of them that I'm borrowing elements of their SparkPages... Thank you, Ladies! You are and continue to be an inspiration to me!

7/08 - 216 (When I first started with SP)
2/20/09 - 206 (When I returned to SP)
3/20/09 - 204 (Beginning of SISC) (2 lbs down)
3/25/09 - 202.6 (My goal for 3/27 is 202.5) (3.4 lbs down)
3/27/09 - 200.4 (GOAL SURPASSED! WHOOHOO!) (5.6 lbs down)
4/3/09 - 199.3 (ONEDERLAND! Weight from child #3 gone FOREVER. Manicure and Pedicure, here I come!!!) (6.7 lbs down)
4/10/09 - 200 *sniff* (6 lbs down)
4/17/09 - 198 - Back in 190-Ville/Onederland! (8 lbs down)
4/24/09 - 197 (9 lbs down)
5/1/09 - 197 (Was 196 at some point this week. Finicky scale. I did lose a .25" in my neck, though...)
5/8/09 - 195.6
5/15/09 - 197.5

I originally had a break down of how many pounds I want to lose each month... But, I've since decided that I just want to take it one day/one month at a time. I'm going for something so much more than weight loss these days... I want to gain an all around healthier me, and I don't care how long it takes. I WILL get there!

It took me years to get up to my highest weight. If it takes me a year to get to my ultimate goal, so be it. Even that is fluid... I just want to be a healthy, happy me!

My Program:
At this point, I'm just trying to change the bad habits that I've developed over the years. I'm trying to drink more water, make better choices in the foods that I eat, as well as getting up and moving more!

I'm also taking part in a couple of challenges to help spur me along. Currently I'm doing:

- The Spring Into Summer Challenge with the Done Girls

5/3 - Started the Sweatsuit to Swimsuit Challenge, which lasts until 5/30

Personal Information:
My name's Dawna. I'm a 30 something SAHM/Home School Educator to three kids, ages ranging from (nearly) 3 up to 15. I've been married to my best friend for over 18 years now, and in that time, I've lived many places. Currently, our hats are hung in Maryland. Once he retires from the Army, though... I'm ready to settle down on a plot of land all our own!!!

    Happy Birthday to You!! Sorry I’m running late!

    Born April 17, you know how to promote your personal agenda, even when the odds are against you. A born strategist, you are able to navigate rough water to see that you get where you are going, especially when ideology is the issue. Indeed, your beliefs are so important to you that it is virtually impossible for you to do something that does not evolve from them in some way; everything you do is, and must be, a reflection of your worldview. You can be a tough competitor, one who can walk a morally thin line to get what you want.

    On the other hand, you possess a rare kind of sensitivity that enables you to be the best of friends -- and what is most remarkable is that those who seem to be very different from you often befriend you first. In your case, it is quite true that opposites attract.

    Hope your day was wonderful!

    On this day you blow the candles out;
    On this day the gifts pile high;
    For one day a year you’re the special kid;
    "This is really great," you sigh.
    "One birthday a year is really fun;
    I want two! I can’t? But why?"
