Hi. I'm Melissa. Since you can never have too much support, I would love to make some new diet/fitness buddies, either virtual or actual. It always helps to have someone there pushing you to put in just a little bit more than you otherwise would.

I have been working on losing weight since Valentine's Day '09. Ultimately, I would like to reach a dress size of 8 or 6 --I really shouldn't go lower for my 5'10 frame. Right now, I am between sizes 10 and 12--it felt so good the first time I went shopping and was able to purchase a size 10 (before losing weight, I was a tight 16)!

I am the founder/organizer for two great groups called Ann Arbor Walks (http://www.meetup.com/Ann-Arbor-Walks/) and Canton Walks (http://www.meetup.com/Canton-Walks/). We do all sorts of health-related activities, like walking, hiking, boating, and cross-country skiing. My involvement in these groups has really been instrumental in my weight loss so far.

The pictures below show my journey and help me remember where I once was and the very real danger of returning there if I don't keep working at it.

*By the way, my user name "DuckyPolo" was created by merging the names of my sun conure (Ducky) and my golden retriever (Polo)--my two most beloved babies!

Fitness Minutes: 5,236

My Goals:
1) Reach my overall weight loss goal by the end of summer 2010.
2) Be able to run a 10 minute mile (accomplished)
3) Be able to run for 30 consecutive minutes (accpmplished)
4) Be able to perform 50 consecutive push-ups.
5) Fit into a size 10 pairof jeans (accomplished)
6) Knick my nasty sugar habit (accomplished)


My Program:
Diet: I keep a food journal and try to eat a balanced diet in 4 meals and 1 snack a day. Sugar intake is kept to a minimum, as are processed foods.

Exercise: I've started training for a 10k to up the intensity of my exercise program. I also do lots of hiking and kayaking.

Mindset: I try to stay positive, which can be a real challenge sometimes. I find reading weight loss blogs and books and watching shows like "The Biggest Loser", "I Lost it!" and "X-Weighted" to be very inspiring. I am constantly saying two things to myself: "look how far i've come" and "you'll be surprised at what you accomplish, if only you try".

    HEY! i am so glad you are getting back on track... really glad.. i really miss us guys.. the thread was left behind and it was a big help and one smile maker!
    me.. i got my surgery done... and i cant exercise... i dont know for how long... hugs ur way and keep me posted... i have probably lost some lbs during these days.. but dunno for sure

    We've got to stick together so that doesn't happen to either of us again! I've decided to force running on myself. I definitely don't like it, but I think I need to focus on higher intensity workouts that I can do every day. Maybe if I buy myself an I-pod and some jams, I will like it a bit more. And, it will be great for the puppy! What are your plans to kick it into high gear this time around?

    and those lbs i gained... took so long for me to lose them!
