I'm finally here.
My initial goal is to get below 200 pounds before I turn 61; from there I'll figure out my next goal. My nephrologist (she treats my high blood pressure and proteinuria) recommended SparkPeople two years ago to help me lose weight, and it's taken me this long to get here. I realize I didn't entirely waste that two years. During that time I cleaned up my kitchen and diet -- no junk, all whole grains, organic, lots of fruit and veggies, and less meat. SP is ...

My Goals:
By losing weight I can (hopefully) cut back on the amount of medication I need to take, which means I'll less side effects to deal with--that translates to feeling better and having more energy. Yay! More energy and weighing less means better mobility -- and a better quality of life.
My Program:
I'm exercising regularly for the first time in twenty years! I'm also learning portion control and consistently planning my meals. I consider that conscious eating rather than mindless eating.
Personal Information:
I am 60 years old. Twenty years ago I had two brain tumors that were successfully removed, but left me with limited mobility on my left side and a focal motor seizure condition that requires heavy duty meditation to keep under control. When I turned 60 this year, I realized I had to become proactive in improving my quality of life -- to lose weight and get moving.
Other Information:
I love reading, all kinds of music, hanging out with people who "think", and figuring out how to make healthy food taste good. If I were trapped on a desert island and could (magically) receive one TV station I would want it to be PBS.

Just because you are struggling does not mean you are failing. Every great success requires some kind of struggle to get there. Opportunity always comes with opposition. HANG IN THERE. — unknown
