Healthy Ever After
My weight loss journey did not start with any epiphany, bad photo, or tight jeans. I always had good self-esteem and thought I had a great deal of confidence. However, like any woman who is blessed to have indulged herself in a 9 month period of cravings, weight gain and more cravings, I found myself waddling to the delivery floor with a bit more than just a little pregnancy gain.

A couple weeks after my son was born and after losing some weight through the whole birthing process, reality quickly set in. Walking into my obstetrician’s office for my 6 week post-op visit, I slumped into the armchair of the waiting room. It was a typical Charleston summer afternoon, an energy draining 91 degrees.
“You know, I don’t feel so hot,” I told my husband.” I can’t remember the last time I actually felt good.”
I looked down at my bulky frame then at my husband. I pointed to my sprawling stomach and whispered, “When I heal and am ready, I better do something about this.”
The nurse called my name and walked me toward the scale. While my husband would persist that I am beautiful no matter what and that my weight gain was due to the fact that I had a bed-ridden pregnancy full of complications and medications, I was nonetheless disappointed with the reality that this wouldn’t be a quick fix.
I can’t say that I wish I would have done anything differently, rather, I wish to now gain the strength to regain my body and mind not only for myself, but for my husband and son as well.
This is my journey to redefine what it means to be healthy and happy!

"I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you learn to let go, things go wrong so that you learn to appreciate them when they're right, you believe lies so that you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall a part so that better things can fall together." -Marilyn Monroe
