I've always known the equation for good health and maintaining a healthy weight: adequate exercise + proper nutrition.
Recently I've found out that the equation is actually lop sided... VERY lop sided!
...exercise (x 20%) and nutrition (x 80%)!!!
For the past 10 years, I've been focussing the majority of my time and energy on the exercise 20% and IGNORING the fact that it's the nutrition 80% that requires WAY MORE discipline for weight management!!!
.............................UNTIL NOW!!! :)
I strive to be the healthiest 100% of ME that I can be!!!

My name is Jessica and I'm 33 years old.
My day job keeps me in a desk all day but I'm also a part time fitness instructor... being active is my passion in life!!! I teach classes like CardioKick, Breathe/yoga, REVS/spin and FORCE/weights. In my spare time, I enjoy rollerblading, mountain biking, hiking, cross-country skiing and snowboarding (to name a few).

My heaviest weight (I started Sparking on April 7th, 2008) was 155lbs & my inital goal weight was 140lbs. (Due to "my build" and that I am a fitness instructor, I've never thought I could be *extra small*, I just wanted to lose the love handles and back fat... to look like the FITGIRL that I really AM!!!)

In the beginning, I was ONLY on Spark to track my calories and to learn some ways to curb my sweet tooth!!! (I knew I couldn't do this alone, so I also sought the advice of a nutritionist who created a diet plan for me to follow!) Now, I'm a firm believer that everyone should have a nutritionist in their life! She has literally changed my life and the direction it was taking! I give her alot of credit for my current transformation and lifestyle changes!!!

Currently (as of March 11th, 2009), I have lost 30 pounds and LOVE Sparking daily! I have met some AMAZING friends through the Spark community and am forever blessed by all the support and encouragement I have received here!

WK0 - April 7th, 2008 - 155.0 lbs ... feeling very fluffy!
WK1 - April 14th, 2008 - 152 lbs ... lost 3 pounds... wow, so soon?
WK2 - April 21st, 2008 - 149.0 lbs ... lost 6 lbs! HOLY crapola!
WK3 - April 28th, 2008 - 147.8 lbs ... lost 7.2 lbs. Still making progress.
WK4 - May 5th, 2008 - 144.7 lbs ... lost 10.3 lbs!

*taking a hiatus from logging my weight here weekly. This journey is NO LONGER about weight loss to me!
I know I will gain weight back again after the competition (since you can't be that restrictive and expect to build muscle!) so I will keep track of my weight fluctuations on my own and blog about it as I see fit. I have most definitely surpassed my "dream" goal weight already!
However, I know that when I do compete in my NEXT show, I intend to have much more muscle definiton in my arms and legs!!! So if that means I lean out even more then I did this time around, BONUS!

June 27th, 2008: Was given Spark People's MOTIVATOR status!!! I consider this a huge SUCCESS (completely different feeling then the success I've had with my weight loss!!!) This is AMAZING!!!

~LOVE my body at all sizes (fluctuating around 135 is acceptable!)
*130lbs is the PERFECT weight for me!*
~Zumba as much as possible... don't worry about lifting weights... focus on mental energy, what makes me happy!
~Dating... put myself out there, meet many different people! But never settle!


My Program:
Eat healthy: about 1600-1800 cals a day, everyday! (Starvation only works temporarily before you completely kill your metabolism!)

Between weights and cardio: burn 3000-4500 calories per week.

I am a Group Fitness instructor... I have been for since 1999! (Then why was I gaining weight for most of those years??? ... exercise doesn't manage your weight alone! Diet, sleep, hydration & exercise are all factors!)

    Hey I am a new member to this site. While looking up how many calories I burned during spin class I came across your spark page. I wear a HRM and it seems to be on the fritz. I've changed the battery. I only get two dashes across the screen or a very low HR reading (74). Do you have any idea what's the matter with my monitor? Or how many calories I burn? I'm looking for some kind of formula so I can have an accurate number to put in my calories burned.
