Introduction Text October 2019: I'm back! Roughly 8 years ago, I lost 70 POUNDS with SparkPeople, and I kept it off for a long time! I did not gain a ton of extra weight with my first baby, and I was so shocked and proud when I found myself within 10 pounds of my prepregnancy weight by my 6-week postpartum checkup. Yeah! But I found myself increasingly ravenous the longer I breastfed and burned the ol' candle from both ends. And then I failed to scale back my portions once my boy weaned at 14 months ... and BOOM! 10 pounds gained in no time. Then I had baby number 2 -- rinse and repeat! So here I am, my youngest is 2 now, and I am up 35 POUNDS. *gulp* I can't bike to work anymore, but I am finally reviving my friendship with Leslie Sansone -- we're walking together at 5 a.m. on days the kiddos allow -- and I'm back to tracking my food. It feels so much harder now that my time is soooooo much less my own, but I'm feeling motivated! I CAN DO THIS! * * * * * * * * * * * * * * July 2010: I'm so close to my goal weight! I've lost 65 pounds in the past 14 months, most of it with SparkPeople. I never thought it could be done -- and certainly not so...sanely. Reasonable amounts of good food and moderate exercise? I'd struggled so long I never dreamed it could be so darn simple. So I'm rocking a size 8 jeans and small to medium tops. I'm still weeding out clothes that are just pathetically baggy on me now. It feels good. I still have a lot of mental work to do though. Many days my brain still sees FAT and I obsess a little more than I'd like over food. But it's still a work in progress and, overall, I am incredibly proud of myself and grateful for SparkPeople and all my SparkFriends! *********************** May 2009: I've been struggling with weight most of my life. This time I'm also focusing on eating less, not just "healthier" -- and it seems to be the key to success! I lost my mom four years ago and drank more than I should have. Then I quit smoking. Then I turned 30. I suppose there's no wonder that I packed on the pounds pretty quickly. I have a herniated disc that created some arthritis in my low back before I was even 30. (Actually, now they tell me I have TWO herniated discs!) I have always hated sports and NEVER liked being sweaty. And I am known for my baking skills. Clearly, this whole fitness thing presents some pretty big hurdles for me. I would like to finally be comfortable enough with my own body that I am not constantly comparing myself to anyone and everyone around me. I want to be healthy and feel great! I want to set good examples for my naturally rambunctious kiddos to continue to follow as they get older.

I am focusing on around 1,600 calories a day of food that I ENJOY and working out in the morning with Leslie Sansone before work. Thankfully my kiddos keep me moving naturally a fair amount too!

I was born and bred in Chicago, and so far it looks like I am here to stay. I'm a nerdy copy editor who loves to read and listen to public radio. I live with my amazing husband and our two amazing kiddos, ages 4 and 2.

I have fibromyalgia.I am working hard at leaving it at that -- a fact I just have to deal with and learn to work around as best I can rather than letting it run my life.
