Hi all,

Guess I'll throw in some background. I'm Greg, 25 working on my MS in Env Science (regulation)-this is my last semester (my mantra ;] ). Live in Corpus Christi TX and and dragging these days. Work in the city as... well inspection/coordinator/incident resolve/middle man/ regulation analyst and enforcement blah blah blah etc etc =] Just trying to feel healthy and happy in my own skin again. If you'd like to chat send me a message I enjoy meeting new people and it helps motivate my butt!

Recovering from a very fun knee injury has caused quite an unpleasant weight gain, 175 to 225 (used to be able to run... still eat like I run). I'm attempting to take the weight off but the usual recovery exercises don't seem to be conditioning my knee to that great of an extent. Things that don’t work: Running, Biking, Swimming, Weight Machines. I was thinking of trying yoga or tai chi to try and recover some strength and flexibility... does anyone have any suggestions or ideas? Thanks!

6/16/2011 update- Alright! Weight loss is happening Turns out I just had to curb my eating habbits a bit, I got rid of most (not all...) of the junk food in my house, soda is a menace so it is also gone. I figure if I make it (even if it means cupcakes and cookies) I know whats in the food and I can control and alter substitutions for bad ingridients. This seems to be working out quite well, I'm down to 197, still not feeling too comfortable but its much better than 225! Exercise still isnt happening aside from working in the triple digits. So, I found out a secret, ANIMAL CRACKERS!!!! they are filling and not that bad for you! =]

11/29/2011 update: Went to the dr.'s for check up and had bmi done. First off, body weight is on the climb but pants size is dropping, I'm back at 215lbs but pants are down to 34 (finally). BMI is down from 24 to 19.6 on the road to health!!! Unfortunately had to force my knee through some rough conditioning (bought 45 lbs weight vest and wore ankle and wrist weights and just ran around like a fool) it was very unpleasant at first on the knee but now it seems to be fine with light-moderate impact (tried the treadmill couldnt walk next day), eliptical and lots of stretching are keeping it in check. Will keep working towards running!!!!

12/29/2011- Joined Gym
1/2/2011- Ran 4.5 mi
1/4/2012- Ran 7.5 mi
1/5/2012- Ran 10 mi ... barely! But made it. This will be my start point, once I am able to make 15mi with no problem I will begin strength training the rest of my body. When I reach 20 mi I will begin endurance swimming. I have no illusions as to how strenuous an Iron man is but I think a half to start andthen attempting a full would be most rewarding!!!
