I'm a 49 y.o. graduate student soccer, theatre, and music mom. These pictures you’re looking at are 10 years old. A tough decade.

The breast cancer I have been fighting for 5 years has now come back. I’m currently recovering from chest surgery and radiation treatments, Lupron shots and tamoxifen.

The trick is how to acknowledge my body’s need for rest to optimize my situation without collapsing into couch potato mode. It’s so hard to stay inspired about exercise when I am dying to get out there for a workout but my body can’t do it for one more day. Or three more days. Or fourteen more days. It’s too easy to succumb to bitterness and apathy. That’s when my little binge disorder seizes control. I seem to have only two settings: extreme yes, or extreme no. A frustrated performance fiend. Moderation is such an art form!

I don’t know yet how I’m going to work this out. But these cancer treatments are progressively worse, so maybe humility is my new friend?

you sound like an AMAZING woman! all your interests! all your athletic feats! and your positive attitude and ability shift your goals when necessary! All my hopes and prayers are coming your way all this week for strength during your recovery process. you are both recovering now and also fighting at the same time! don't get down on yourself if u plan or want to do more than your body lets you today. Every day is a new opportunity to fight back against cancer and show the people who love you how strong mentally and physically and emotionally that u are. Strength is found in doing "small" things, too! U sound enthusiastic and positive and like u are a very fun person to b around. u sound like u are a WONDEREFUL mom and friend. I was surprised when someone told me I was their inspiration and hero -- just for me fighting back against cancer. I am SURE U r the hero to lots of people who love u, for all that u do to fight back for 5 years and counting! u got this! if u do some treatments now that u did previously, u are at an advantage -- u already know things to expect, u know tips that work for u, u know that u r stronger than anything the cancer throws at u, because u have beaten it before. And u will beat it again! emoticon
