Started using this web site November 1st, 2006 and I did a terrific job until the last few weeks before my October 23, 2007 goal deadline. I was within 1 pound (at least for a day or two) of reaching my goal weight. As with all of my birthdays, especially my 45th, I had to celebrate. The celebration did not last just one day, but an entire month. During that time I gained a pound or two, back and forth during my whole celebration. I was okay with this. I had still lost 40 pounds and my BMI said I was in normal range. Thanksgiving led into Christmas which led into New Years, what was I thinking? I had three months of letting myself go. I did continue to exercise, which is a good thing. So, after all that was said and done, I am staring at an additional 4 pounds. I knew I had gained, my already tight jeans were now unbelievably tight and I felt crappy. New Years day, even though I really didn't want to weigh, I jumped on the scales. I knew I had to face the facts. I was proud of myself not putting off the inevitable. So, here it is May 1st, 2008 and the scales haven't budged, but, looking at the bright side of things, this is the first time in my life of dieting that I haven't immediately gained most of the lost weight back. So, I feel successful. This journey has taken me much farther than smaller clothes, I have discovered that my successes depend on me and my mindset. I have found magic in myself and my determination.

February 12/2011- Stepped on scales today and saw 161 staring back at me. I am grateful I have been able to keep 30 pounds off since 11/06, but I must get to goal weight now. Today, I feel determined and I hope that I can keep a positive outlook on this process.

My Goals:
First of all, my first and most important goal is to reach 160lbs by April 23, 2007, which is my nephew's birthday.
Reached March 16, 2007

My second goal is to reach 150 by October 23, 2007, which is my birthday.
Came within 1 pound three weeks before this date, unfortunately I have gained a few pounds since.

When I began this program I was working out 4 to 5 days a week but I wasn't much of a runner. I have been running 6 miles a day/3 days a week for some time now, but at a fairly slow pace.
Today, January 7, 2008, I can run 6 miles in 62 minutes.

My goal for this year is to run the half marathon on May 04, 2008 in Alexander VA. I have already signed up. I would like to finish in 2 hours 11 minutes.

My Program:
I am a firm believer that you have to measure and log your calories to get a firm grip on your weight loss. I have done this for the last 10 months. I also believe you have to exercise regularly (at least 5 times a week) to make a difference, which I have been doing.
For me, strength training seems to have helped tremendously, not only allowing me to eat more calories and still lose weight, but also to firm up the skin which at my age doesn't snap back as quickly.

Personal Information:
I am 45 years old, but I still feel like I am in my thirties- sometimes even twenties. Age hasn't caught me yet. In fact, using this program has even made me feel younger and stronger than I have felt my entire life. I have had so many compliments and I feel better than ever. Don't think I can ever give up Sparkpeople.

Other Information:
I picked "Headstrong" as my username because, well, for one thing I am very stubborn, but the fact that I have realized this past 10 months that if you think it, believe it, you can DO IT.

    Thank you for taking the time to read and leave a message on my blog. I found it a hard blog to write as it rather laid me bare!! However I felt that, indeed I hoped that my honesty might help to rekindle the Spark in some and give hope to others!!
    The reaction to the blog has been overwhelming.
    Why overwhelming you might ask? Because I don’t believe that I am doing anything out of the ordinary!! I hope that the over-all message that you all took away from that blog is one of hope – that if I can do it – you can do it too!! Its not an impossible dream – it is something that anyone and everyone can achieve. You can read more on this in my short “open a few doors “ blog that I posted as a follow up.

    Thank you for your kind words! She does look a little thin in that picture I have on my page, I just think she is so pretty. The pictures of myself that I posted are actually of me last summer, about 45-50 lbs ago. My camera broke in September and I have been too lazy to get it fixed, so i don't have any pictures of myself at my current weight. It could also be because I don't want to take any pictures of myself right now! I have added you as a friend, I hope you don't mind! Hope you have a fabulous day! emoticon
