Update: I completed the Seagull Metric Century! What an experience and I loved it!! Thanks again for the rest stop advice!! I also made sure I loaded up on fig Newtons for the ride! I found out, however, that there is no ladylike way to open and eat a pack of fig newtons while riding!! Oh well, someone somewhere is talking about a cyclist with crumbs all over her face! emoticon

Hey, I gotta tell you your user name was just the reminder I needed yesterday afternoon...had fixed roast beef with all the trimmings in the crock pot for dinner. Healthy enough, except later in the day I found myself with my fingers in the leftovers getting ready to pull out 1/2 a potato (how can you resist potatoes fixed in with roast beef???) I remembered your user name and migrated out of the kitchen. Just the save I needed! Thanks for the motivation and your sense of humor...and the help on the bike team bulletin board.

HI emoticon Thank You for posting your advice on bike comparison

Would I be better off just getting a cyclocross type bike since its my first?
I was intrested in trying the Rocky Mountain Solo CXR/CXD/CX but no one in Toronto has them in stock I would have to order and pre pay for it which means Im stuck if I test ride it and dont like it. The cyclepath store has a
Serpa 10 for $1000. its a "Touring Bike" the manager said the tires are a little thicker. I have a locale Bike Depot store that sells the whole Specialized line what about their"Tricross" bikes expert/Comp/sport triple/and single cross?
I did try out the Allez Sport Compact you mentioned and I liked it $1469.00
the same road bike in Trek 2.1 is $1429.00, but I get more for my money on the specialized ?

Im getting frustrated and am close to buying on impulse at this point would
appreciate your advice on the cross style bike before I buy.
    Thanks again
    John
