Iffilayo's Journey Back to Well-Being
Life is quite the thing, isn't it? Before you know it, you've experienced and accomplished more than you would have imagined possible. Alas, while wracking up accomplishments, you can neglect your body.

I initially joined SparkPeople in early 2009 to assist me with getting down to my ideal weight for my career. At that time, I was primarily acting, writing and singing. I did eventually succeed at getting my body back into the shape I preferred, but by mid 2010, my career had changed drastically and I was working in an executive capacity. My active lifestyle went to the wayside and my physical form wasn't much of a priority. The more successful I grew, the less I paid attention to my body-- much to my chagrin. Of course, I gained weight. Well, in the past month and a half, I've used the world's forced break to begin remedying this mistake on my part.

My Goals:
To get back into optimal health-- ideal blood pressure, able to walk 5 - 6 miles daily with ease, eventually down to between 140 - 150 pounds (with my mesomorph physique, this weight appears to be 120 - 130 to the eye), and back into size 6 or 7 pants.
My Program:
I am in my mid-40s now, so I have to be more gentle with my body than I used to be in my 30s. A combination of brisk walking for at least 100 minutes daily, bodyweight strength training (arms every other day, legs, waist and thighs everyday), freesstyle dancing, hoola-hooping and very controlled diet, has been working to encourage my body to shed excess weight at a good clip. Although I usually burn a significant amount of calories per day (800 - 1200), I rarely find myself hungry. I attribute this to not putting my body under undue stress with rigorous exercise, but instead going slowly and for a longer time. I haven't weighed myself in almost 3 weeks (don't want to grow scale obsessed), but since I've been able to fit back into clothing that I haven't been able to in over 4 years, I think it's working.
Diet-wise, I've been following the Spark nutrition guide, using mostly my own vegan recipes and staying within the caloric and nutritional guidelines. I try to eat 2 - 3 times a
