Regarding the Nike Free's - the lower the number, the less cushioning it has. I mainly wear the 5.0's - feels like a nice soft slipper. You will need to go up at least 1/2 size. I normally wear 8 1/2 but the Nike Free 9.0 fits me well.

I got the Nike Free 7.0 to wear on longer runs due to the fact it has more cushioning but there is not that much difference from the 5.0. However, I have not been running over 13 miles for a long run so once I start increasing the miles, I might notice a difference.

I did have to work my way up in mileage wearing the 5.0. My longest run in them has been 11 miles with no problems. I have 325 miles on those shoes & they still feel so great.

    Good Luck with the shoes!

I might just have to get that book! I'm only doing around 20 miles a week right now, but I love calculations and formulas and feeling like I really figured something out :) I've been casually toying around with different macronutrient ratios, and I found that I definitely need at least 50% carbs, otherwise I'm sluggish and grumpy (especially the day of and day after a longer run).

Yup. What you said really does make good sense.

However, I guess I'm frustrated about the push towards more South Beach/Atkins-style type advice that carbs should be absolutely minimized if at all possible. I think if that was the situation for everyone, then most nutritionists would specify as much?

It is very much a numbers game - finding optimums that work for each individual - and very well should please the inner nerd. emoticon (They really need a smilely with nerdy glasses) Hehehehe. :)
