Digging Myself Out of the Mom Hole
Hi! I'm Jessica...I live in Florida and I am a wife and the mother of 2 little girls, 10 and 4. Things have steadily gone south (fitness-wise) over the last 10 years, between 2 young children, a career, Wendy's too delicious dollar menu, and advancing old age so I've decided that this is going to be the year that I learn how to take care of myself.(Properly, not by using the pages of Cosmo). I asked around and found out about Spark People! I'm SOOO excited to finally find a site that does ...

I asked around and found out about Spark People! I'm SOOO excited to finally find a site that does the math for me...here's to hoping it works!
Some crazy diets I've been on and the results:
Slim Fast: Found the shakes are delicious with pizza
Cabbage Soup Diet: We're not going into detail about the gastrointestinal effects...I'll just say it wasn't pretty.
Fat Grams: Less than 20/day...my hair fell out, and I lost about a whole 5 lbs for the trouble.
Weight Watchers: Lost 30lbs...and was miserable and starving all the time. Then gained back 50. Yay. And spent a small fortune to do it.
Atkin's Diet: This was a doozy, lost a ton of weight quickly, COMPLETELY killed my immune system, had to go off it, gained back all the weight plus.
Supervised Starvation: I don't know what else you'd call this...a local women's gym offered this program...I was burning about 5000 calories a day in exercise (I was a teenager and had the time and energy), and only eating 1,200 calories a day on their diet. And they couldn't understand why I hit a plateau and couldn't get off of it. Or why I got gallstones from it and had to have my gallbladder removed at 16.
Pregnancy diet: Per my OB/GYN; "Just eat well". That was helpful.
Anyway, the point of listing all of that is: that for all the money, time, and energy I've tried to put into trying to be healthy in my life, no one has ever thought to teach me to eat right. And I SURELY never figured out how to do it on my own...I've been so confused since the Atkins fiasco that I just gave up.
I'm BEYOND HAPPY that technology has opened the door for a program like this! (One that actually deals with the whole person, not just the scale.) While I'm not having any medical issues yet because of my weight, I know I'm not bulletproof, and things like Type 2 Diabetes, Heart Disease, High Blood Pressure, and Physical Injury are lurking around every corner if I don't get something done about this. I wouldn't turn down smaller, cuter clothing, but it's just not my goal anymore--I'm kind of getting worried that I won't be around to see my daughters grow up, and that is the most terrifying thing I can think of.
Update 2/25/12: I am kicking healthy living's ever loving butt! AND YOU CAN TOO!!!!

My Goals:
Primary Weight Loss Goal: get down to 207 so I can just be regular fat, not obese.
Reboot goals:
#1 Lose the 20 lbs. I've gained over the last 4 months.
#2 Get back into the SP habit so that I can accomplish #1!!
Other lifestyle goals:
I need to find BALANCE (yet again.) I'm an all or nothing kind of girl, and I need to start working on finding my happy place in the middle of the road. (Again. Sigh.)
My Program:
Eat well and prosper. :)
Stay in range, eat consistantly, and forgive myself on days that I'm not 100% perfect.
For fitness, I'm working on keeping the cardio down to no more than 45 minutes a day, no more than 5 days/week. No more "serious" strength training until I'm closer to my goal weight....light weights are still "on" though!
Personal Information:
I'm kind of goofy, selectively shy, and extra opinionated. I have a tendency to be (more than) a little silly when expressing "serious" emotion...humor (or my interpretation of it), thou art my favorite defense mechanism! So, please don't post hate comments to my blogs or status if you don't get the joke!
I'm married with 2 awesome little girls, a big brown dog, and 4 salt water fish, and a wicked collection of paranormal literature!
My stats: I'm 5'11", and built like a brick house! (My German farmer ancestry made for "sturdy" women.) I tend to be pretty muscular on my own...the strength training is helping it along too!
Other Information:
I'm a closet goth/punk/neo hippie...there, I've said it. I no longer have the piercings , make dark/bizarre fashion choices, or wear the death make-up, but my personal tastes still kind of run in those directions...old age has tamed my outward appearances, but not my spirit! My favorite movie is The Nightmare Before Christmas, my favorite book is 1984, George Orwell, and my musical tastes extend to all 31 flavors!
