    There is so much on this site, it's common to feel this way - I know I did!! But we take any journey one step at a time so I found that focusing on just small pieces was the best strategy for me

    I've been here since Nov. 9, 2009 and have really learned a lot about myself, food, and exercising. I truly feel joining Spark was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
    One of the best tools is the nutrition tracker. You will be shocked when you enter a typical day's food! Try to track everything you eat and stay within your limits. Don’t panic if you slip - we all do! Just put it behind you, you can’t change it, and move on. One of the main concepts at Spark is to take two steps forward for each step back!
    The fitness tracker is also a great tool. You can track your steps, mileage, cardio exercise, and strength exercises. It will tell you how many calories you have burned.
    Take time to make lots of Friends and tell them when you reach a goal or are having a hard time. They are here with praise and support all the time! Don't be afraid to ask any question, no matter how silly you think it is.
    Take time to explore Spark. Read and respond to message boards, blogs, and other members' pages. The help, support, inspiration, motivation, encouragement, and friendship you will receive is awesome! The site can be confusing at times but just keep looking around. There is really a lot of valuable information here!

    So sorry about you and your husband's job losses :(( So many people are struggling to find work right now :(( You will find articles on here how to eat healthy on a budget, great recipes for old favorites revamped to be lower calorie, all kinds of things like that. There are lots of good articles dealing with emotional eating you should check out. I don't know a single person who has not given into the bad munchies when things are going poorly.
    The goal of this website is to teach people to live a healthy lifestyle, not just a 'diet'. That means exercising regularly and eating healthy nutritious meals for the rest of your life in order to lose weight and then keep it off!
    Spark's tools and program encourages you to learn healthy living one step at a time, working on good habits until they become second nature. It is not easy, and it will take time getting used to it, but will be rewarding in the end to stick with it.
    Tracking calories is the key. Accurately weighing and measuring everything you eat is vital, as guessing can too easily go over. I was good with exercising, but had never tracked my food before and that made a huge difference and opened my eyes to just how easy it is to consume more calories than your body needs. You must also make sure you set the Fitness Tracker to how much exercise you do in a week so it can give the Nutrition Tracker the right calorie range to stay in to lose weight. I actually really enjoy juggling my food choices to make sure I get the right nutrient ratios and stay in the calorie range, its really quite challenging LOL. But getting them right means your metabolism will be fueled properly, important to make your exercise pay off and burn those calories!
    For me, I find exercise a GREAT stress reliever and the harder the better. Don't feel like snacking when all you want to do is lie down and fall into a deep sleep, resting those aching muscles lol.
