I am 6 and a half years retired and want to continue enjoying an active engaged life. I have had a high energy level and have been able to use a fitbit and sparkpeople to lose 35+ pounds 235 to low of 186 . I have gained to 210 and am committed to get going in the right direction again. I realize that I am not 20 years old and want to extend my healthspan (not just lifespan) as much as possible.

I have found tracking food intake and daily monitoring of results the best way to sustain motivation. I also track steps and this has saved my health as I get distracted from a nutrition and caloric focus. Strength training is a goal too, but not the strong focus that walking was for me. In my sixth year I will introduce more variety in my goals with gym activities, my walking and bike workouts. I will recommit to doing something daily either walking or riding in reality or on a stat bike. I want to do some balance work daily. I got a balance board for the New Year!

I want to stay in contact with a variety of friends and family, helping them and giving and getting support, but without taking over their problems. I have been successful in helping a friend who was slipping away to bounce back a bit. I manage his affairs and got him the practical help he needed to move forward and enjoy living a bit. I want to continue to oversee his progress.

I am recommitting to daily monitoring with immediate adjustments as a life long strategy, rather than the diet mentality, or yo yo on and off mostly off, approach which I know will not work.

Congrats on your mileage. I'm trying to get that many miles myself. I feel like such a weakling.

Looking to stay focused through the upcoming holiday season? Want to get connected with a team to support you on your journey to a healthier lifestyle? If yes, consider joining the BL “Snow More Excuses” winter challenge starting December 5th, 2018. Each week 11 teams of 24 active members do fun nutritional and fitness challenges to promote a healthy lifestyle. Challenges can be modified to meet your needs. Often we do the challenges in a game form. We have BINGO and TIC TAC TOE. For the fall we had a Cardio Hoedown, World Series, and Sleepathon. I hope that you decide this might be for you.
