Hi all!

Thank you for visiting my page! I am so excited to be here on SparkPeople. What a great, inspiring website!

My name is Melissa and I live in Massachusetts, U.S. I've struggled with my weight my entire life and was a chronic yo-yo dieter who tried every fad diet and diet supplement known to man. After my divorce, I used food as both a comfort and as a way to put on weight to keep people at a distance. In March 2017, at the age of 41, I weighed in at 293 lbs; the heaviest I'd ever been. That day, I decided enough was enough and that I deserved better: It was time for me to shine and start living life again and not just existing. I enrolled in a program to have gastric bypass and began my pre-surgery weightloss. I had my surgery on August 2, 2017 and since then, I've lost 166 pounds.

My transformation has been an incredible journey in every way! I have 4 pounds to lose (goal weight is 123), but my main reason for joining Spark People is to maintain my weight loss and set (and achieve) new fitness goals. I want to become stronger and athletically fit. I want to start to challenge myself physically to see what I'm capable of accomplishing; something I've never done before (in terms of fitness and exercise).

My Goals:
*Maintain my current weight-loss and/or lose 4 pounds (to reach goal weight of 123)
*Train, sign up for, and complete my first 5k by May 2020
*Design a fitness program (cardio and strength training) that is realistic and sustainable for me.
*Begin to go to the gym on a regular basis (3 days a week)
*Begin practicing yoga and meditation to help me become more mindful and live in the present instead of worrying about the past or the future
*Begin cooking more and being adventurous in the kitchen by trying new recipes to keep me from getting bored with the "same old, same old"
*Make new friends who will inspire me and hold me accountable, and whom I can do the same for in return.
*Train, sign up for, and complete my first Sprint Triathlon in 2021 to celebrate my 45th Birthday!


My Program:
Most days, I still follow my post-surgery diet, which includes:
* 1200-1300 calories
* At least 80 grams protein daily (all plant based because I'm vegan)
*Try to stay between 100-120 grams of net carbs
*Limit starchy veg, added sugar, and processed foods



Personal Information:
I'm 43 years old and live in Massachusetts with my 5 fur-babies (cats). I am very involved in animal rescue, protecting the environment, and fighting for social justice and human rights for all. I love to travel and after 34 years of waiting, I FINALLY fulfilled a life-long dream of visiting Greece! I CAN'T WAIT TO GO BACK!
