Well, I've gone from 320 pounds to 230. I guess that is 90 pounds, now. What I did...you wouldn't want to do. I had the bariatric R N Y gastric bypass in July of 2009. I wouldn't trade it for the world, but it does take a GREAT deal of patience with yourself. All the taste buds are different, and from week to week you can tolerate foods or not, so lots of food gets thrown away. The best ideas I can give people from the after Bariatric surgery are: LOTS of ANY kind of liquid that is NOT soda or diet soda. That would include clear soups, sugar free jello, sugar free popsicles- almost ALL DAY LONG. Propel water does have about 10 calories for 1/2 bottle, but it's still water, and the calories are negligible. Ice, crushed ice, all of that is water. Decaf coffee counts as liquid, but is not as good for you as herbal teas. Splenda seems to be the best sugar substitute, but stay away from Aspartame or any additives with "ol" at the end. Maltitol, sorbitol, they all have sugar alcohols which can cause extreme gastric distress. At least one meal or two meals a day can be a whey protein powder mixed with water, such as Pro-Complex which has 60 grams of protein. If you go on a high protein diet and will be deficient in nutrients (which I don't suggest unless you are nearly 100 pounds overweight), then you can take extra vitamins and minerals. The ones which are depleted by that diet would be B-12 (sublingual is best), B-1, and D3. If you are female, added calcium (I have to have calcium citrate) with magnesium and zinc are also helpful to round off the nutrients. Instead of bread, I use defatted and powdered wheat germ, and add wheat and oatmeal bran to my drinks sometimes. Also, if you go on a very low calorie diet which is NOT recommended by SPARK, you do need to have your blood nutrient levels checked by your doctor on a regular basis. VLC diets can cause gallstones and other maladies, but in my case, I was so very super morbidly obese, I decided to go for it and take a risk. Also, exercise became my mantra. Science has found FIDGETY people expend more energy than calm people. So, even when I sit, I am moving my feet, arms, and rolling my head and neck. I deliberately walk more than I have to wherever I go. If I have to stand, I hold onto something, like a desk, and do bending and stretching. Yesterday, I was in a WII bowling tournament and had to sit a long time to wait my turn. So, I did stretches, stood up and marched in place, bent and moved my whole body while waiting. People DID look at me. So? Their problem if they want to sit on their butts and do nothing while waiting, 4057 days ago
