I will be 50 years old this coming summer and have been recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia. My husband and I moved to this area a year ago from the SW for his work. I don't like diets. My activity level has slowed down so much because I have so much pain. I decided I would try a diet with a gradual weight loss program and try a very gentle exercise plan, one that I can tolerate and stick with. I used to be incredibly active working full-time, going to yoga classes, running around doing the shopping, banking, etc. Now, I'm in a very different place in my life. I'm trying very hard to keep a postive attitude and embrace my life and thank God for where I'm at right now. This site seemed like a great place to seek motivation, support, and encouragement while I try to help myself. So, here I am ready to do whatever I can to get stronger physically, mentally, and spiritually.

My Goals:
My goals are to lose at least 70 pounds by the end of this year. If I can't be firmer, I would like to be more flexible in my joints. I would like to have a better understanding of my illness. I would like to find a support network that would help me when I can't seem to pick myself up anymore.

My Program:
I'm tracking my calorie intake, trying to find a fit with exercises, but at least doing stretching and some treadmill right now so as not to cause too much pain, and making sure I drink at least 8-10 glasses of water a day. I also make a point of reading several articles and items on message boards for inspiration.

Personal Information:
I'm 49, married 30 years to the same wonderful guy, sons are grown, married, and live in SW where we recently moved from. We now live in the midwest. I am a migrainer and was recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I have a lot of pain as well as balance problems so exercising is a challenge for me. I'm open for suggestions to alternatives :) Weight loss is a challenge as well as I'm on multiple medications. But I'm taking a big leap of faith in joining SP. I like what I see so far.

    Hi KB,

I enjoyed reading your page, and seeing your posts on the board. I see where you are new to the midwest. I hope the area welcomed you warmly. Missouri is my home state, but its been many years since I lived there. Hope you aren't being buried in snow or ice at the moment. :)

Hi Kim ,just wondered how you're making out with the stability ball. After finding my balance, I wouldn't be without it. Do you use a tape with it ? Mine came with a tape showing the excercises by Kathy Smith. I'm finding it difficult to get the hang of using the message boards, there just seems to be so many people that I lose track!

Have you ever tried eating gluten free to help with fatigue and fibro? Google fibromyalgia and gluten-free or fibroymyalgia and celiac and research if this might be something worth your while. It has helped me a great deal. (So has a foam mattress pad!) Once my nutrients went up I started having more energy and feeling less aches. Best to you on your journey to health.
