I will be 50 years old this coming summer and have been recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia. My husband and I moved to this area a year ago from the SW for his work. I don't like diets. My activity level has slowed down so much because I have so much pain. I decided I would try a diet with a gradual weight loss program and try a very gentle exercise plan, one that I can tolerate and stick with. I used to be incredibly active working full-time, going to yoga classes, running around doing the shopping, banking, etc. Now, I'm in a very different place in my life. I'm trying very hard to keep a postive attitude and embrace my life and thank God for where I'm at right now. This site seemed like a great place to seek motivation, support, and encouragement while I try to help myself. So, here I am ready to do whatever I can to get stronger physically, mentally, and spiritually.

My Goals:
My goals are to lose at least 70 pounds by the end of this year. If I can't be firmer, I would like to be more flexible in my joints. I would like to have a better understanding of my illness. I would like to find a support network that would help me when I can't seem to pick myself up anymore.

My Program:
I'm tracking my calorie intake, trying to find a fit with exercises, but at least doing stretching and some treadmill right now so as not to cause too much pain, and making sure I drink at least 8-10 glasses of water a day. I also make a point of reading several articles and items on message boards for inspiration.

Personal Information:
I'm 49, married 30 years to the same wonderful guy, sons are grown, married, and live in SW where we recently moved from. We now live in the midwest. I am a migrainer and was recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I have a lot of pain as well as balance problems so exercising is a challenge for me. I'm open for suggestions to alternatives :) Weight loss is a challenge as well as I'm on multiple medications. But I'm taking a big leap of faith in joining SP. I like what I see so far.

I have struggled with this disease for about 5 years. You just have to keep going (very hard to do) and look for as much support as you can get.
Not everyone understands this disease. You can e-mail me anytime,

Hi and welcome to Fighting Fibro,

We are a group of people with Fibro who have been there and done that. We are supportive of each other and are here for each other. This board was founded so we can cry, vent, rage at our illness, yell about Dr's. and even brag when possible. You are so welcome and I see in your Picture the Arch in the background. I am from Mo. but I am a Packer Fan..Best wishes.
