    I saw a comment on a blog asking what the 5% Challenge is. If you click on my name or profile pic, it will take you to my Spark Page. Look under my list of teams and click on the first one, 2017 Winter 5% Challenge and it will take you to that team. For a description of how it works, look under the Discussion Forum for the Topic, "Required Reading: Rules Summary" and be sure to click on the link to Frequently Asked Questions to get a good description of how it all works. I wish I could just give a link, but there's no option for that here and without that option they often give error messages when copied.

    Basically there are about 14 teams of 35-40 members who spend 8 weeks in a friendly competition to lose 5% of their body weight. Most don't lose that much but enough do to show it is possible. Most do lose something and feel they are better off for having participated.

    In addition to focusing on weight loss, we also have weekly Living the Good Life (LTGL) Challenges, things that could become habits in a healthy lifestyle. They vary a bit each season, but are things like drinking 8 or more glasses of water a day, tracking what we eat and staying within our calorie range, measuring our food portions, having a pre-planned bedtime or getting 7 or more hours of sleep each night, no random eating (just when your hungry, it's meal time or a medical emergency), spending 10 min or more a day decluttering....and we get points for each day that we succeed at the LTGL.

    So a team can win by losing the largest % of their accumulated body weight, by the most LTGL points, or by total team exercise minutes. We post our exercise minutes for each day (daily posting preferred, at least weekly posting required). A few teams are highly competitive but while most enjoying winning, that's not their primary focus. Individuals improving their health is what is important, and everyone is at a different stage and moves at a different pace. All we ask is that you do the best you can with your fitness level and life circumstances. There is room for those who are not as fit (like me), for those with injuries who do what they can but will have low exercise minutes, and for maintainers who have reached their goal weight and want to not gain it back.

    Most newbies will automatically be assigned to our new Rookie Team to learn together how the Challenges work. Once completing a season as a Rookie, they will then be free to choose any team they'd like. All the teams are active and supportive but each has it's own personality.
