March 5, 2010

Today is my Spark Birthday.

What have I learned in 3 years?

That setting goals do work, but you need to set goals that motivate you TO work.

That this is a great community of people who are supportive and who might become your best friends

That everyone has a different start point, that point from which they change their attitude to start losing. For me, it started around the time I decided to use inches and BP, iron and cholesterol levels as a measure of health instead of the scale. There were other things involved in that decision (read my 2/27/2010 blog) and now I feel healthier and happier.

Thanks to Spark Guy and his team and to Spark members and to the other non-Spark people who have made this an extraordinary 3 years!
August 2009

I know, a long time between updates. During the time I achieved a goal I've wanted to achieve since college: I visited Japan!

Check out my blog at

I learned a lot while there, but I just realized that I should use the same determination and planning to achieve my other lifetime goal: to be a healthy weight.

March 2008

It's been about a year since been a member of spark - a wonderful year here full of discovery. I've discovered: new cyber-friends, new goals, new methods of tracking food and a new philosophy for my page.

I didn't want to erase the first philosophy, my original introductory text, because I want to remember where I started. However, I came to realize last week that it's not about ME, it's about US.

I went through a hard time last week; I was frustrated because I had been at a plateau for a long time. Long story short, Spark People came to my rescue. They showered me with praise and support, reminding me that the scale doesn't know who I am or my special place in life. One person wrote: "Don't you bail on me! You hear me?" It was then that I realized that I have a responsibility to Spark members: not to place myself above anyone else but to be around to return the support I was given during my time of crisis.

If you are reading these words I want to thank you for the support you have given, continue to give or may give to me or anyone else in the future. You are a loving, special person. I hope to have the opportunity to return support to you.

It's about Me

I know it sounds smug, but I was uncomfortable giving a lot of info at first. Now 'it's about me' is more of a personal response to an in-law who thinks that *I* think that all I care about is myself.

Well, In-law, on this site it *is* about me and my interaction with people like me who want and deserve the best for themselves. The adage is true, you've got to take care of yourself in order to be able to take care of others.
