I'm doing it again - I am cycling 180 miles from Columbus, OH to Athens, OH and back to raise money for Cancer Research. Let's wipe out cancer!

Hi - I'm Kris, a single mom to a wonderful 8 year old girl. I've been through alot of changes in the last few years from being laid off and finding a new job to graduating with my masters, getting divorced and quitting smoking. What was left for me to drastically change? Yeah - ME!

In January of 2006 I hit the highest weight I had ever been, not counting being pregnant, and I had to buy larger pants. I knew that this couldn't go on any more so I went in search of an online food/calorie tracker and found SparkPeople.

After 9 months I had lost 30 pounds and was doing fine maintaining it. I had a physical and the blood work showed that I had lowered my cholesterol by 60 points. SIXTY! All through diet and exercise.

But then I got hit with a huge project at work and from June 2007 to December 2007 I gained back 15 pounds. Then I started back with my SP plan, lost 5 pounds and got smacked in February/March with more work than I could do and still workout like I was doing. I had to go in early and stay late, had to send my daughter to before and after school care - talk about the guilt! Then - after getting home from Disney World I BROKE MY ANKLE! There came the next 10 pounds putting me at 20 more (or more) than my lowest.

So I am back to knuckle down and get this all started again. Sparkpeople has really helped me define for me what a "healthy lifestyle" means and is helping me achieve it.

One cool thing that has come out of all of this is that I am now teaching group exercise classes at the local Y! I love Step Aerobics, Spinning and teaching Strength Training.

My Goals:
I had a goal of losing 30 pounds and I met that in June of 2006. I've maintained well fluctuating from 130-135. From June 2007 to Jan 2009 I have gained 20 pounds back. I lost about 10 of those and now I hover around 145 pounds.


My Program:
I am eating better, counting my calories and working out. I do a strength & tone class 3 days a week for 55 minutes and cardio for 30 to 90 minutes a day, 5 days a week.

    Thank you for commenting on my blog, as always! I'm using the book, "Everyday Paleo" to hold my hand through this, as I spent so many years trying to find a way to feed Savannah something she'd eat, but I hated the foods she seemed to really want. As it happens, THIS is what she and I BOTH wanted. Sara Fragoso is the author. There are all kinds of other recipes, but it's easy and time-saving just to sort of march through her recipes.

    Next book I'll get may be "Make It Paleo", as those recipes look good. Of course, a really good steak cooked up right is pretty simple, too. I love my pantry now, Kris. I love everything in there, and we can eat all of it without guilt. Great stuff!
