Hi and Welcome to my Spark Page.
My name is Jackie and I started my journey on March 25, 2008.
I reached my goal weight of 112 in August 2. 2008* (see note at bottom).

I initially found Spark People through another website and decided to look into it. It was free and I had nothing to lose except for the extra weight I was carrying around.
After getting married in 2002 to my wonderful husband, I moved in with him and his 2 young sons. Suddenly having a family with children was new to me and a little overwhelming at times to say the least, and I found myself turning to food to deal with all the new found stress. Of course, that didn't solve anything. But, it was a pattern I would continue for the next several years.
When I came upon the Spark People website that day, I was so ready for a change.
I absorbed everything I could by reading the articles, participating on my Spark Teams, and using the Nutrition and Fitness Trackers. They were a godsend.
I started out slowly, but I kept at it. I knew I didn't put on the weight overnight and it wasn't going to come off overnight.
When I started seeing results, that spurred me on to add more cardio to my workout. After a couple of months, I also added strength training to my workout routine.

It was and still is a lot of hard work, but it's SO WORTH IT!
I am healthier, I am back into my regular size clothes again, and I am so much more aware of what I am putting into my mouth.

I reached my goal weight on August 2, 2008 and have had some ups and downs but holding steady at my present weight of 116.

I do cardio 5- 6 times a week and strength training 3 times a week.
Life can get very hectic, but it's also full of choices. I choose to be healthy and take care of me. If I am healthy, I can better take care of my family. So, no matter how busy I am, I find time for exercise. It's my gift to me! It's all about choices.
I still have some days where I indulge more than I should but I don't beat myself up about it. I just keep moving.

So, to new members and to members who feel discouraged, don't give up. Use all the great resources Spark has to offer. If I can offer any words of wisdom, it would be to just keep plugging away. You WILL reach your goal. Stay determined and if you stumble along the way, just get back up and keep moving forward. YOU CAN DO IT!
The support from Spark People and my Spark Friends has been paramount in helping me reach my goals. Thank you all!

Blessings!

Jackie

Thank you for posting the Message Board link about the Spark transition on the 6/13 JSTETSER blog, I created my account a few days ago and have been exploring. I was disappointed with their fitness tracker and lack of food tracker. So, I have hope. Again.

Jackie, I can understand your feelings. I'm having trouble with the new situation, too. Very sad, feeling kind of empty.

Thank you so much for your address. I've added it to my email contacts. It's great to know we can get in touch and don't have to say goodbye forever!

I hope you have a great Thursday!

Like you, Jackie, I am very sensitive to change and have such a hard time adjusting. Several years ago, Spark changed up our personal Spark pages. Remember that? Some people complained they became much more like Facebook pages, but I've never joined FB so can't say. Anyway, there was a lot of protest then, and I think some people quit over it, but SP carried on with the change. I thought they had the right, since they own this business and have to make changes to keep gong. I got used to the new look, and it seems others did, too. I don't think any of my friends quit over it.

But this time is very different. Foreigners and expatriates are being excluded. Of course, that means me and a lot of my friends! Even US residents are saying the new site is nothing like the community-oriented old one. I think it's all very unfortunate, but I guess they can't survive with their old ways, so I'm afraid this might be the new reality. Maybe a new community will arise that'll take us all in. I hope so!

Your artistic memes and cheerful messages have meant a lot to me in recent times, which have been hard for me personally and hard for the world. Thanks so much!
