I am a thin woman trapped in an obese woman's body. After getting married in my mid 20's, I traded nights out dancing for dinner parties (with wine, of course). Upon divorcing two years later, my weight began to spiral out of control as I used food to comfort me and fill the empty hole in my soul.

Fast forward to my mid 50's. My food addiction has resulted in more than 150 extra pounds on my frame. My body hurts constantly, and I am no longer able to take my dog for a short walk - never mind dancing. The thin, active, happy woman who grabbed life by the horns has been replaced by a hot mess, so big she can't even tie her own shoes.

This nonsense must stop. TODAY! Today is the day I take back my life and wage a personal battle on obesity and food addiction. Today is the day I commit to making healthier choices each day, one day at a time. And today is the day I vow to love myself more and beat myself up less, forgiving myself when I slip, and getting right back on track, rather than allowing one slip up to derail my entire program. One piece of pie does not have to lead to another and another until the whole pie is gone. Food is just food. It is NOT love. And no matter how much I eat, I cannot eat enough to stuff the hole in my soul.

Today is the day I commit to seeking out healthier ways to calm, comfort and reward myself than by stuffing myself with food. The say a journey begins with a as single step, and today I am taking the first towards a healthier, happier, more confident me. AMEN!
