I'm a 27 year old licensed social worker, specializing in working with children and families.
I've been on an 8 year journey of gaining and losing, up more each time, except for the last time!!! The last diet got me further than I ever thought would be realistic for me. SOOooOoOo....let's hop on the way back machine to April 2008.

Ah, April 2008. I was in my last semester of grad school. I'd dieted on and off for quite a long time. I spent a ton of money on LA weight loss in 2006, got from 217 down to 205, joined sparkpeople and got down to 195. Maintained that for about 6 months, until Christmas 2006. By the next Christmas I was 220, thanks to a diet of muffins, coffee, cookies, candy, and Wendy's #1 combo meals.
It was at that time I realised that I could technically qualify for weight loss surgery. Rather than spurring me into action, this depressed me, and I kept eating up to 225 lbs. I discovered medically supervised diets, and attended an informational meeting in March 2008. I decided it wasn't for me because a) it was horribly expensive b) the products contained aspartame, which I thought gave me migraines.

NOW back to April 2008. I was in a coffee shop working on a final paper. Type type type on my laptop. Cookie in hand, I realised that my size 20 jeans, which I bought with the greatest hesitation and feelings of defeat, were too tight. Painfully tight. Distractingly tight. I had to leave the coffee shop to buy new pants so I could complete the paper.

The next day I set up plans to get the blood work I needed done for the medically supervised plan.

I started the plan at a local hospital May 2, 2008. My pictures document every 4 weeks of weight loss on the plan. I went back on regular food in September 2008 after losing 55 lbs. Through sensible eating, I lost another 19 or so lbs. by November 2008. I binged all Christmas season and gained about 15 lbs back, so am still working on this "healthy eating" habit and adding in serious exercise again.

I'm so glad I didn't give up. So glad I didn't pursue surgery. I'm so glad I'm doing this for me this time.

I am getting married in October 2009. Even with the weight gain, I am 12 lbs thinner than when my fiance met me. My goal is that his wife will never be as heavy (pregnancy excluded) or unhealthy as his girlfriend was. I hope our children will never really know the part of me who did (and still does):
- want to eat fast food 2 meals a day
- hate variety
- hate vegetables
- find any alternative to salads
- get out of breath on one flight of stairs

What I hope they do see are the benefits I expected from weight loss:
- I can shop in almost any regular sized store I want now (I love throwing away Lane Bryant coupons-I used to work there!)
- I can look at family photos and see the whole family instead of just my size

and I will privately enjoy the unexpected benefits:
- turns out aspartame doesn't give me migraines
- turns out I'm not fated to have 1 migraine a week. In fact, I've had about 3 migraines since May 2008, and only one was a bad one.
-acid reflux- GONE
- Turns out running isn't too hard for me. After no more exercise than the occasional walk for months, I was able to hop on a treadmill and go right into alternating 3.8mph walks and 5.8 mph runs. Short ones, mind you, but nothing to inspire the "don't have a heart attack the first day" comment I got when running at 217 lbs!
-Oh, and I thought I couldn't walk at more then 3.5 mph. Now apparently my stride is longer because I can walk at 4.1 mph. That used to be a required jog.
Maybe someday I'll be able to keep up with my marathon running sister.

Run a 5k, maintain weight, enjoy healthy food

My Program:
I'm learning to run and plan to run a 5k this year for the first time. Also working to keep my eating habits in check. I lost a lot from a medically supervised liquid diet, but have a hard time applying the lessons I learned about healthy lifestyle.
