I'm Linda!!!

Those that know me, and now you, know that several years ago I had gastric bypass surgery. I was desperate to lose weight. I was nearly 270 lbs (at 5'2") and drowning in my own body.

The surgery went very easily, I had a great recovery and lost weight for about 8-10 months. I lost 98 lbs and loved showing off my new body. Although it wasn't as low as I had hoped, I was a size 12 and felt like a regular sized woman. I could shop in regular stores and walk around in public without stares or negative second glances.

Over time, I gained back 55 pounds (as of 2011). There is a variety of reasons but probably the biggest culprit was taking advantage of the "tool" the surgery was to be. I played the game of malabsorbtion and lost as my body reclaimed it's ability to eat and digest. They tell you a hundered times during the pre-surgery process that you have to change your way of thinking and being or you will go back to where you were before. That was so true.

Throughout my life, weight has been an almost constant "weight" (no pun intended) on my mind. When I was young, I felt fat because my parents were. I really had a negative outlook on my body and how I felt in it. Eventually, I self prophesized myself into a 270 lb woman at 30 years old.

I have a very happy home life, two wonderful kids and a great husband. There is no pressure of being someone I am not. I have learned to love myself many moons ago and have much to be thankful for. My issues, are my own and identifying how and why I have this difficulty of losing and maintaining weight loss in part of my new journey.

So here I am. I will be blogging and commenting, and supporting you in any way I can. I know I need help and accountability. And I think I have alot to give to you as well.

Feb 2013 update- Unfortunately, the news is not all that good. Still ahppy, still (relatively) healthy, but even further away from my goals. Somehow over the holidays I just felt like not wanting to worry about weight any more!
Truth is that I am tired of all my thoughts being centered around my weight. BUT, that attitude has gotten another 10 pounds on and feeling more miserable.
So, another try... another "do" over.

My Goals:
Lose 20 by May 2012 (for India trip),
Lose 36 by July (for Mexican vacation)
lose 45 by October... FOR ME!
lose 65 by January 2013 Forever
sometime in 2013-2014 lose 95 (dont remember when I was this low but it was never in my life after the age of 15)

My Program:
I am on a mission to eat healthier, as much as possible.
I visited a weight loss doctor today and she told me that I need to relearn what I lost in the last 8 years. That means, high protein, more water, smaller portions.
I intend to be very consistent with an exercise program of atleast 30 minutes 3 days per week. I am going out of doors walking and bike riding. If only I could use all of the equipment I have at home like my treadmill and fitness DVDs
