I have been thinking about a blog I read earlier today - writing down the mental challenges to my weight loss so that I am aware of them and can refer back to this list when things get tough. The idea seems to be, "Oh..that''s always how I get when ''x'' happens so this isn''t the end of my program, just a bump in the road." I LOVE this idea and thus:

1. I worry that this time will be like all the previous failed attempts or aborted programs. However, 10 years ago I quit smoking for good, cold turkey, after numerous attempts to quit, so I have positive proof refuting my fears.
2. I get bored with eating plans and feel deprived and petulant when I can''t have what I want, when I want it -- and most importantly, HOW MUCH I WANT OF IT - whatever "it" is.
3. I miss wine and feel pouty and petulant when I make it a program goal to avoid alcohol for periods of time during my program.
4. I am jealous of what others get to eat.
5. I feel cheated on weekends of not being able to go out for dinner and have exactly what I want and exactly how much I want.
6. I sometimes feel that if I "cheat" (an improper term to use for a lifestyle change in the first place) that I haven''t followed my program perfectly, and if I haven''t followed it perfectly, it can''t be worth continuing.
7. I keep thinking about "how lonnngg" it''s going to take to get to my goal and how far I still have to go instead of focusing on how much I already have accomplished.
8. I try to "outsmart" my eating plan by overestimating the calorie burn of exercise, underestimating my caloric intake and underestimating portion sizes.
9. I get cocky when I have a really good week - "oh look, sticking to the plan perfectly resulted in a 5 pound loss this week. I''m okay with losing 2 or 3 so I can eat MORE next week."
10. The "why me" syndrome? Why do I have to work so much harder to lose weight than anyone else? Why do I have to work out more? Why am I not naturally thin? Why can''t I eat whatever I want? - in other words - self-pity.
