I'm 40 years old, happily married father of three. My sons are from my first marriage and are 20 and 16. I then have a daughter from my second marriage, she's 13 months old. Really want to get my health in check since I've got a lot of years of being dad left. Also the plan is to have one more child in the near future.


I quit smoking about 7 years ago and that was also the last time I was a weight I was happy with. I'm currently 40-45lbs overweight. I eat too much and am prone to binge eating. I also like sweet, meats (burgers) and pizza. I sit a lot!!! I sit at work where I have a desk job, then I go home and sit in front of video games. My activity level is low, and I've gotten used to that, now I lack both motivation and energy.
I've had many hernias, and typically ignore them. I’ve had had 2 open heart surgeries 20 years ago and again 5 years ago. Also have terrible triglycerides and fairly high cholesterol. The good news this hasn't really limited my activities, it's only my laziness that has limited me. I’m also having a bit of trouble with a knee and hip.


So number one on my list is building a support system of like-minded people. I was part of a couple really good groups in 2008 when I last lost weight and want that again. So I’m looking for active groups with lots of people participating (just joined up with BLC and am very excited about that). I’m planning on eating right keeping it between 1500-1900 calories a day and keeping the types of food in that number overall healthy. I will exercise daily, as much as I can, at a very minimal aiming for 7000 steps, but as able plan to do much more. Also going to run out and see about new shoes, and maybe some inserts for the other aches and pains. I looked up some exercises to strengthen the knees and hips. I’ll try these first and if that doesn’t work will have to see a doctor.
