I'm a former coffee-slinging book nerd who really needs to get in shape on so many levels. Working in the cafe really helped my weight balloon up quickly (thirty-forty pounds!) in a year or so--and I was already significantly overweight.

It's been almost a year since I left that job, and I actually joined Spark back in late August 2008. I was making good progress and lost almost 25 pounds. In mid-October, my grandmother passed away and that was the beginning of a long slide that I've finally made the decision to get off of.

So I'm back, I've moved, I have (another) new job, and I'm hoping to stay on track for the long-term this time. I've gained all but about five pounds of what I lost, but I'm thankful it's not more, and looking forward to working my way down again. I know that Spark works for me--it has before--and I can't wait to see it happen again.

This is the best hope I have towards making my life more normal again.

My Goals:
I'm looking to lose about half my weight--eventually. Right now I think I'd be happy to get to 200! I've gotten to the point that I'm tired of how this is affecting my life, and I want to do something about it. Besides that, I want to have kids someday! No way I'm teaching them -these- habits so they can end up where I am now twenty years down the road.

My Program:
Right now I'm mostly just counting calories and trying to get in a little bit of a workout each day. I was in the bad habit of skipping breakfast and lunch and nibbling at work all day, then binging once I came home. Because of my current work schedule (11:30am-8:00pm) I'm going to be taking advantage of the "many small meals" technique. I'm planning on 3 meals around 300 calories a day, and then a 500-600 calorie dinner with my family when I get home from work. With my schedule, I can't really operate on a "normal"' three-meal plan--I'd be starving all the time!

I was using DDR for my cardio, but found that it had a pretty bad effect on my knees after a while. Now I live in an apartment building with downstairs neighbors, so that also makes it an unwise option at this time. The good news is that my new apartment complex has a workout room--I just have to get myself to go there!

Personal Information:
Original start weight: 301.2 (Aug. 2008)
New start weight: 296.3
Current weight: 296.3
Goal weight: 150

Total loss: 0 pounds
% lost of loss goal: 0%

I'm thinking about rewarding myself with a tattoo when this is all said and done, depending on the shape of ye olde skin when I get there. I always said before I would never get one because I had no idea how much weight I might gain (or lose) in the future, not to mention that at the moment I don't have too many body parts I'd -want- to decorate.

Now that I have a plan for the future, I'm thinking about it again. By the time I get there, I may change my mind--we'll see.
