I was never a perfect size 2, but I did not appreciate my reasonable size 8 either. I gained weight during college and finally planned to lose weight when I went into the double-digits. I was successful on WW for quite awhile, working on weight loss with my sister-in-law, mother-in-law, and husband. We all did great until my mother-in-law was diagnosed with another type of cancer after two bouts many years ago. A few tough years ensued with successful surgeries and treatments while my husband (then fiancee) and I were engaged. We were lucky enough to have her at our wedding in November 2006, followed by quickly moving (after the honeymoon and holidays) into our first home together. We finally settled in January though an unexpected fall in February brought his mother back into the hospital leading to her passing away seven days later. This was tramatic to our close knit group and though we had only been married a couple months, I was close to his mother since we started dating in college--almost ten years ago! This would have been tough enough so soon after our nuptials and so suddenly, but while still coping, my husband's nephew ended up in the hospital in ICU. It felt like we were still reeling and this second trauma was difficult to bounce back from. He is better now and we are all closer than ever, looking forward to a better 2008...but is was also rough getting through the first Christmas and the first birthday without my husband's mother last week. So with all the ups and downs the past couple years, I am now at size 16 and looking for a positive change this year. Not only for myself (who I sometimes forget about while caring for others through work in social service and my family as the oldest of the bunch!), but for my husband and our future family.

I'm a newbie and just trying to get motivated for the new year. I know how to eat right (WW helped a lot) but I don't want to "donate" to learn what I know how to do....I just need to work on it, exercise, and stop being such a pickey-eater! I love to cook, so that helps...but busy work hours make that hard. I started buying healthy snacks for work and a water bottle to get on the right track...



Personal Information:
I have been married just over a year and live in Chi-town. I love where we live, where I work, and my hubby. I want to focus on making time for myself, keep our date nights for the new year while still keeping in touch with friends, and get healthy! :)

Lord, we know we complain about our bodies, but we ask You to bless it with healing and wholeness. Where we are having physical difficulties, direct us towards the right care. Don't let us abuse our bodies just because we are tired of its shortcomings.

    When we focus on our breath and think about the oxygen soaring through our system, We are so grateful for the intricate workings of our bodies. We were made by You Lord, and we will treat Your creation with kindess, inside and out.

    We believe, yes we do Lord. And we have a whole list of things to ask for. Lately we have been slack in numerous areas. It is because we let insecurities take over our identity in You. What a shame it is! All we need to do is ask You for guidance, perseverance, wisdom, and peace for our circumstances. You affirm our faith when You answer such prayers.

    In the days ahead we will look for greater confidence and security to replace our weaknesses. We will watch for evidence of Your power in our lives. We have been here before and know of Your faithfulness. As Your promises unfold, the glory will be Yours.

    Far to often we fall victim to what we know isn't good for us. We constantly beat ourselves up for making simple mistakes, because we have begun to understand the commitment we face on. We're so quick to jump head first into the waters without fully testing whether we can stay afloat. This change we've committed to make in our lives isn't a head first change. It's a change that involves a day to day process. We carefully, slowly take it one day at a time. But we also have to not bag our heads against the wall when we: eat that chocolate chip cookie, drink that Pepsi soda, savor those potato chips. What we have to remember is if that was done on Monday, then Tuesday start over, let Monday "go". Don't hold yourself hostage to what you did yesterday. Believe in yourself and your strengths that you pray upon. Pray and you shall receive.

    To whom should we give today? Whom can we help? Let us start the day with this question, Lord. If we are asking to be of service, then we cannot ignore the opportunities when they arise. We have looked into needy faces and kept walking. We think too much about such things. Our minds ask, "How can we fix somone's life?"

    You ask us to be women of charity and kindness. Our actions to assist another child of God become a part of Your will for that person. You are not calling us to fix her, to make her whole. Only You can do that. Our job is to lend a hand along the way.

    Just providing someone with kind words of encouragement, you'd be suprise how much you can help that person out of a troubling stump. This healthy lifestyle change alone is enough to make someone want to quite and give up. But just stopping through to encourage them to keep pressing on, will help them reach their goal. I lend my helping hand to you. Please stay encouraged, stay focused and motivated. Remember, anything worth having is worth working hard for.

    Recognizing the Time:

    There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven:...a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance. ---Ecclesiastes 3:1,4


    You created a time for each seas. You masterd a plan of cycles that allows endings and beginnings to flow together. Under heaven's gaze, we live through these seasons and try to adjust to them. Lord, we face a change right now and need to allow ourselves a chance to weep. As we face a transition, give us laughter so Your joy can touch our soul.

    Our time to mourn will be followed by chances to dance. We pray that Your presence will always be known in our life. May we never allow sadness to breed doubt when it is meant to breed hope for tomorrow.

    We are all asking for change in some way shape or form. Whether is weight loss, financial, spiritual, family, emotional, communication, etc. Take each day one day at a time. This is your journey! Spend time with yourself, and get to know "you" better. If you planned to workout for 45 mins and only squeeze in 30, congratulate yourself, hug yourself for a job well done! Because remember the old you was squeezing into a size you weren't comfortable in. So how about embracing this time to be your time to dance! Enjoy!

    Hello, and thanks for adding me to your page! I wanted to stop through and congratulate you for wanting to make this change for yourself. I can relate to give 500% of yourself to everyone else, and having nothing left for you. However, I've made up my mind that losing this weight and becoming healthier is my time, just for me! I also send many blessings to you and your family regarding the lost of your mother in law. Losing a family member and loved one is hard enough without any other struggles. It was a blessing that she was here to witness your wedding day. I"m sure that placed a smile in her heart! Stay encouraged, place focus on your needs more, and don't be afraid to say NO! That's a big one for me, always being available. Well I now have a sign that says, "Arnetta has left the Builiding" LOL. Good luck, and look forward to beating this weight loss journey with you.
