Hi Everyone, My Name Is Monica. I'am Married To A Wonderful Man (Michael Alleman) Of Whom I'am Proud To Call My Husband! I'am Forty Nine, And Have Been Over Weight Since The Birth Of My Oldest Child In 1982, Seven Total! Throughout The Years Till A Few Months Ago, I Have Gained 176 Pounds, With My Highest Weight Elevating To 338 Pounds! Reaching My 30's, I Started Having Health Issues Which Only Esculated There On Resulting In Diabetes, Hypertension, Asthma, And Poor Curculation In My Legs, Etc. I Joined Weight Watchers In 2009, Lost 17 Pounds, Then Gave Up After A Few Months! About A Year Ago, My Dr. Told Me If I Didn't Get My Weight Under Control, I Was Going To Die...Plain And Simple! At This Time, I Considered Weight Loss Surgery...Prayed About It, Searched It, Even Followed Through With 90 % Of The Plan, And Decided It Wasn't Right For Me! Only Since Feb Of This Year, That I Decided To Take Control Of My Life And Start Living Again! I Then Joined Weight Watchers Again, And Have Lost 50 Pounds So For! Needless To Say, All Of My Health Problems Are Now Under Control, Thanks To The Grace Of God, And My Will To Finally Make That Very Important Step In My Life! I Didn't Need Weight Loss Surgery After All! I'am Now Proud To Be A Part Of The Sparks Community Where I Know I Will Succeed To The Fullest! Monica

Happy Sunday. Hope you're summer is going great. Are you still on track to do all you can today to reach your goals tomorrow? If so, great! If not, what can you change today that will help you feel accomplished? One little thing. Drink more water? Cut out soda? Go for a walk? Small changes add up.

Welcome.... thank you for adding me as a friend. Sounds like we have a lot of the same health issues. I too starting having problems in my 30's, except the high blood pressure, I was diagnosed at the ripe old age of 14. I also have Diabetes, Asthma (for as long as I can remember), High Cholesterol, the right side of my heart is enlarged, I have Osteoarthritis in my hips, degenerative joint disease in my knees, IBS, bilateral carpal tunnel and there are just too many to list. My last count was about 35 different medical diagnosis. I started my weight loss journey about 4 years ago. Lost 65 pounds in my first year. It has been up and down since. I have been able to mostly maintain. My highest weight was 282 and now at 228 or so. I have been up and down with about 8 pounds for a while now. But I will not give up. This has been a life style change for me. And I might add, a Good one. If I can do it, I know you can too. Anything I can do to help let me know.

    emoticon Greetings and emoticon

Congrats on taking the next step to reaching a healthier you by getting active with SparkPeople - it's a great community, wonderful resources and fantastic support. You're off to a great start already, just by posting here! And 54 lbs since Feb is awesome!!

    emoticon

Please check out the SparkTeams - I think you will find a lot of others 'just like you' including many with the same challenges, circumstances and goals. There are even teams of people here who follow WW. You can choose SparkTeams by age group, lifestyle or interests, geographic location or several other ways.

Some of the teams I like and think you might like include the Official 10-minute Daily Exercise Streak Challenge, Starting Over Weekly Mini-Challenge Team, 10k Steps A Day and Motivation & Positive Attitude Plan - but there are so many to choose from, you can have a great time looking for the ones that seem to fit you best! In fact, I suggest joining more than one group, post your intro there and write blogs as often as you can - you will find tons of friends and support that way, I promise!!

In my experience, SparkPeople is like a emoticon in some ways - it's lots of fun and easy to make friends because we're all in this together. I like the way a HEALTHY LIFESTYLE is emphasized instead of a 'quick fix wonder diet' so it's good for people wanting to lose weight, maintain a previous loss, get healthier, improve fitness and many other goals including gaining weight or saving money - it's about waaaaaay more than 'just' losing weight so you have definitely come to the right place!

If you ever need any help using features of the site, there are tutorial videos under the HELP section that can show you how to use the features of the site. You can also find them on the START page and several other places on the site.

    emoticon

Be sure to read and 'study' The Spark book because it outlines the overall program and is compatible with most types of eating plans. Right now there is a 'special offer' on Amazon to get it in electronic format for just $1.99 - you can download the free Kindle reader for your computer or read it on a smartphone so you don't have to actually own a Kindle device to take advantage of this generous offer - so check it out!!!

    emoticon

If you haven't already discovered the SparkDiet linked at the bottom of the START page, check it out - the program is simple but extremely effective. There is a TON of information on this site - so much it might even seem overwhelming but fortunately we don't have to 'digest' everything at once! The FastBreak program is a good way to start.

    emoticon

Another nice thing about SparkPeople is that we have permission to be human - we don't have to change everything at once or be in a hurry to reach our goals. Take a few baby steps and then a few more and before you know it, you'll have completed a long journey - I hope you enjoy this community as much as I have - it teaches us how to make positive lifetime changes because that's the only thing that will work over time!
